Queen Mary: Second Class Stairs 12

The Velocipede came just before the bicycle, and this example is the one most people think of when velocepedes come to mind. It's nickname is the "Boneshaker."
Wikipedia notes that there were many other styles available. "These vehicles had a variety of designs, of two, three, or four wheels. Some two-wheeled designs had pedals mounted on the front wheel, other three- and four-wheeled designs used treadles and levers to drive the rear wheels." Mass produced in the middle 1800's, the hundred dollar price made these velocipedes a very expensive mode of transportation for the upper class.
