Solstice 2008

Cuz T blowing snow in Milwaukee….2008. Baby, it’s cold outside.

Himself: My Santa.

Herself: House and laundry in order, presents sorted, prayers sent out, now only the food needs to be placed out on the counter for the hungry grandkids.

The Holiday: For some, Winter Solstice is the holiday they celebrate. Today, with the Campo family stopping by, we celebrate the day too.

Balance: Flexibility.
No starting the fireplace up here today, there isn’t one. The heater is on though, and the fans cranked up. The temperature is still at 40 F, so the warmer quilt is pulled up on the bed, and fleece blankets are available all over the house. We wear our turtlenecks with panache and layers are pro forma here at our Southern California Beach condo…along with our smiles.

Today starts our holiday season. We have family coming to visit.

For us, this holiday will stretch from this Solstice day through G’s birthday when we will take the tree down. Yes, a date way into January will be the final day of the holidays for us.

Today we check for dust bunnies, make sure the slip covers look clean….for grandparents should be good examples, don’t you think? Yes, everything will be messy later, but right now they need not know what slobs we really are. Quick, pop into the shower. Even quicker, stir up the tuna salad for the sandwiches, grab the bread from the freezer, put the meats and cheese on a platter, and turn on the Christmas tree lights. For us, like our Barcelona family, today is a holiday.

  2. Mage, lovely that you check the slip covers. Such a loving touch. We are not so factitious. Still, I can always improve.

I wish you and the family a very happy and merry Christmas. All the best.

Thanks so much for all your comments on my blog and all the posts on yours. You enrich me life in ways you probably couldn't know.
