No More Wimping Out

The Star of India tied up at the Embarcadero, 2010.

Yesterday and Today

Himself: We both took the three day weekend off. He did the laundry…such a good guy. He also made a conscious effort yesterday not to play computer games all day.

Herself: I did small things yesterday. My desk is almost clear, I finished one book and started another, I bagged poetry books for the poetry ladies….and we had a picnic on the bay around four. I’ll be there reading your blog but may not have time to note. Mea Culpa.

Gratitude: Free time not spent thinking.

We both are back to the grindstone today. He’s doing EDD things in East San Diego, and I’m trying to put the final work into the chapbook before taking it to the printers. The skies are grey and there’s drizzle. I get to drive the truck. Small positive things make up my day.

My whole goal is not to think especially not think about the job situation. I’ve managed not thinking for the long weekend, but my brain is prone to breaking down and thinking anyway. Cold, rainy days are depressing, and we are in the grip of grey. I’m resolutely not letting any of it get to me. Doggedly…while keeping my focus on me and what I need to do for me.

  • Leg lifts. Back to doing those every day. Out of the pool.

  • Walk somewhere, anywhere, as well as swim.

  • Water aerobics at least four days a week. No wimping out.

  • Sticking to the low fat, low sugar, low salt diet.

  • No obsessive thinking…turning it over.

  • Stop finding excuses to wimp out on these lifesaving things.

Ah, reality. I’m a wimp. Easily. I don’t have time to be one anymore and survive, so it’s time to turn those Geezer worries over. When I start thinking again in the future, and I will…I know me, I hope it will be easier to turn all those worries over and move on.

  1. Good for you. Sending my energies your way. I have been sick for days and have no desire to exercise or think, so you will have to do it for me.

  2. I like your plan and am cheering for you!!!!! I seriously need to do the same on a somewhat different level. Taking charge of your life is not an easy task and I applaud you for it.

  3. Dear Mage, You are such a lovely person, doing your best, not a wimp, but like me, not Wonder Woman, either. Let it go. All that self flagellation doesn't help. Many hugs.

  4. Maggie -- 1. You're are NOT a wimp. Your compassion is strong and with it comes concern.
    2. I tend to wake up in the middle of the night and totally obsess about things -- so I've decided to put up a mental stop sign when this happens. It's worked a bit -- I think I need to keep practicing.
    3. Your idea of walking and exercising is a good one. Control what you can.

  6. I agree with all your friends about you being a lovely person doing your very best to cope with a difficult situation. There will be days, weeks, etc. where you feel less able to measure up to the challenge. Please know you are well loved and we are all rooting for you.

  7. Letting go is more difficult than worrying. Being busy helps. Take care and try to enjoy these new things in your life.

  8. Swimming and walking - there is little more beneficial. I wish I could emulate you but the only time I have enjoyed swimming was in Greece. You have to do it for both of us:)
