Blue Quilt

............................Bits of breeze stir colors blurring the blue
............................grey on grey blue, fogging blue black watered
............................thin by sunshine through the wooden shutters
............................fading fabrics to an even shadow.

............................Neighbors saunter by their dogs on leashes,
............................barking at the fire engine’s howling,
............................the siren’s cry, the diesel’s doppler growl,
............................barking into the sunshine just to bark.

............................I move my blues and greys about to make
............................monochrome quilt blocks from nine small pieces
............................cut now without enthusiasm, tired
............................of greys, at heart I’m drained of days without

............................the summers golden glow. A siren sounds
............................and I, found dozing in my blues, leap up and bark.

Yesterday and Today

Himself: Did all his research, headed out to write estimates on two wrecks, came home and inputted them, and didn't know how to send them off. This is how his days will go. Simple dinner. Shopping, and playing with toys till bedtime. Side note: Both one of the Garmisn and our Toyota have been recalled.

Herself: with the quilt blog too: The GPS they sent him was broken as was the power cord. On my wish list was a middle range Garmin. After watching him yesterday, we bought a Garmin after dinner, and we both had a grand time learning to use it. It's a mid priced one, and it powered right up....tho it cannot pronounce Rosecrans St., we love it anyway.

Family news: My cousin's wife got a new knee, and she is up and marching the halls with a walker. Last year she got a new ankle. Soon she will be dancing again.

My Babylonian Captivity: Do stop in and read Tugster's newest blog. For Tugster was captured in Iran when Iraq invaded, and this is the story of that time.

Gratitude: Garmin's technical ability.

The poem wasn't a great success with the poetic ladies, but it did inspire a long discussion about writing poetry within the group. I made the changed the ladies suggested, but I too am disappointed in it. Oh well.

What I wasn't disappointed in yesterday was either my hip or the Geezer. Exercising in the deeper water with a noodle leaves me almost pain free for the first time in years. The Geezer had a ball out there in the field yesterday with one wreck at a ladies home and the other at a dealer.

  1. I like the leaping and barking part. Very much.

  2. The ending is good. Sentiment (ideas) in the lead up to it is good. Need better words.

Glad to hear about the water exercises. I should be doing it, but ambition fails me there.

  3. So tired from all day out that I must remind myself to read this and give my full attention soon...then I will comment.

  4. I know nothing about poetry, but I know that I love the blues of your quilt. I also like that bright one in the middle. I think the quilt will turn out to be beautiful. I hope you get your inspiration back to finish it.

    I love the garmin, too.

  5. Actually, Maggie, I like the poem. -- This is the English teacher- me speaking. I like the twist at the end. What exactly about the piece bothers you?
