A Turn In The Stairs

A turn in the stairs. The Nahrit jar had cracked, and G found the right glue and fixed it. I’m very fond of the gestural marks on that simple pot. 2010.

Yesterday and Today

My Babylonian Captivity: Do stop in and read Tugster's newest blog. For Tugster was captured in Iran when Iraq invaded.

Himself: Swam, job hunted, interview, got gas, haircut, puttered, dinner with Don, took sponsee shopping for camera and phone, TV. Today: job searched, phone interview at 1000 where he is one of seven candidates..

Herself: The quilt blog Swam, shuffled books at the store, ditto G plus GPS window shopping for me. Today Swam, lady poets, and an exciting unplanned afternoon.

Gratitude: Sunshine!!!!! But a cold front is heading down the coast.

  • It’s ok if I have to rush around Thursday mornings cleaning up the house after myself so M doesn’t. How beyond marvelous to have M here; how nice to be busy and making messes also.

  • Laid out twelve blocks of the blue quilt just to see what I am doing….I’ve felt at a loss with this piece colorwize. Much to my surprise, I found the layout looking as if I were making a Japanese tone poem. I’m pleased now and not feeling as if I were working in the dark.

  • My IBS has been kicking up a storm. Gee, we discovered by chance the other night, it’s made dramatically worse in both of us by that fake sugar stuff. My back has been in knots, and two diet cokes combined with six pieces of a no-sugar chocolate bar sure put us out in the nether reaches. I know…TMI, but it’s a part of our lives.

  • A little quilt blog entry has been turned into a one page essay. I have no idea what to call it, but it begins, “I’m sitting among friends. To my right are Craig Claiborne and James Beard, and to my left wait architecture and sci-fi. All the volumes are worn; all with me for so many years.” I haven’t figured out if I should identify the volumes as cookbooks or the authors as chefs. I haven’t even figured out what I am doing with it all yet….but the first pictures are taken and the first words written.

  1. Oh, I love that opening. I like the idea of not identifying them as chefs. Anyone who knows will recognize the names.

    Two interviews? Fingers crossed!

  2. 1. You'll figure it out.
    2. The colors on the stairwell are striking -- absolutely striking! And I love the pot and its marking as well.
    3. I've been finding the sugar substitutes are ripping my stomach to shreds. Am also going to have gall bladder surgery shortly. TMI?
    4. Strong thoughts coming your way about the interview.
    5. Stinking hot (yet again) here.

  3. Splenda, and the other artificial sweetners can be hard on the gut. The body doesn't know what to do with them except to expel them and while they're sitting in your gut they're drawing all the moisture out to create their dirty work, diarrhea. If you're prone to such it's best to avoid artificial sweetners.

Looks like you're in creative mode. Good for you. Good for the soul.

  4. Quilt sounds promising, and I do hope you'll tell Himself how sorry I am about his gas. I love the opening too, and I agree completely with Anonymous up there! (And reading backwards, I already know he got the job! Yayyyyyyy!)
