Moving On

Bee and Mikey at home, 2010.

  • Yesterday the news that Mikey too has lung cancer hit me hard. I cried along with Bee, but this morning I am seeing a slightly optimistic side. We are all grateful that Bee got him to the doctor after a second bout with a cold….unusual for Mikey. It’s not small cell cancer, so the chances of it having spread are very small. The shape of the tumor has not changed at all since it was discovered. They will do a PET scan in two weeks to see if it has metastasized, and if they thought it had I’m sure they would have acted faster with this. Everyone is marshalling to help.

  • I’m not brave about bothering people, but yesterday after talking with Bee, I mustered my act together and called Marion’s house. Her son George answered….sounding much like his brother, and said that Marion wasn’t much interested in having input now. It’s moving much faster than anyone had anticipated. I decided that I would continue sending cards and calling.

  • Lee has been moved to a North County Hospice. I would like to go by today and say Good Bye.

  • Sometimes life’s plans differs from yours. Often I think of our friend Jo who had such a tough struggle with breast cancer. She changed everyone’s lives quietly and with grace. Much of what I do today is because of her actions then.

  1. Maggie, it is not hard to see why you would be so sad. These horrible tragedies, even if you are optimistic about a few, it is still one damm battle after another. I hope you find some equilibrium, some lightness, some light... such trite words, but know that I am sending you a trans Atlantic, trans continental hug.

  3. Maggie, is the Geezer who commented on my blog your Geezer? I'm confused.

It also doesn't help in times like this when you aren't feeling very well yourself. Be easy with yourself.

  4. Oh Maggie! Sometimes it all seems to want to drown us. I'm sending very positive energy your way. I know it's hard to be positive with all that's happening around you, but it might help to remember that oftentimes people do recover from cancer. I'm proof -- having been diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2003. You're in my prayers!
