It's going to be a wet winter!

Rain clouds over the desert, 2006.

Yesterday and Today

Himself: Vegged out in front of the computer. Laundered a little, groceries, sandwich out, meeting. Vegging is good for the soul but not the figure.

Herself: …and the quilt blog too: Ate cookies, followed G around and Vegged feeling as if I were a lump. I gotta keep moving….the lesson of the day. The baby quilt came out of its second soak and rinse with almost totally clean water. Now my goal today is to begin to get rid of the black and red mold stains in the white border. One of the Quilting Feasters recommended lemon in the sunshine, but we appear to have limited sunshine this week. I want to get that quilt done and back to Lessa as a symbol of her getting well and moving on. Best news of the day, my drivers license is still valid says a rude person at the DMV. WOW...at least I have my self assurance back. I also called Marion's family this morning, and I emailed off the chapbook mss to a contest. All this by 0930. I'm grinning.

My Babylonian Captivity: Do stop in and read Tugster's experience as a human shield. He writes that, “ i was captured in kuwait (where i was teaching in the kuwaiti air force)….”

Gratitude: Friends.

Rain, rain….don’t go away. It’s going to be a really wet winter, and I need to remember this. Always.

Discount tire had a sale, and now that G is working again we can afford tires. Our car tires were down to the wear bars. We made it to Discount the last day of the sale, paid for the Michelin Hydro Edge….on order for later in the week. They are open till six, so he’ll make an appointment for late one day this week, take me along, and we can have dinner out after getting the tires.

It rarely rains here in Southern California. Everyone says, “Californians can’t drive in the rain,” but that’s really not the problem. It doesn’t rain here. The roads really dry out. Oil from the vehicles saturate the cement, and when it does rain the oil floats to the surface and the cars float on the oil....as Poolie reminds me, too fast cars. Simplicity. Wham, bam, whack, zap…and we all be wrecks.

Any insurance person who works with wrecks will be working long hours this coming winter. The goal here is to survive this experience. The Geezer is taking the newly-tired-truck to work today…..gently as the pilot shaft bushing seems to be going continuing to earn Grumpy his name. Survival is the operand phrase if one spends ones days on the road.

  1. My roses are loving the rain! And....I must disagree with you. Californians really don't know how to drive in the rain because....they drive too fast. Yes, the roads are slick too, but I think the real culprit is speed. You can drive on ice if you know what you are doing. I did that in Minnesota all the time. But here...it's just go go go go go.

  2. It seems you had a lot of rain last year as well. California is becoming a tropical paradise it seems. We had drought this year and that will occur for at least one more summer.

  4. I don't like rain much but it beats the you-know-what outta snow and ice which is what will be here soon. Sigh.

I'm vegging, too but then I drove home yesterday from Toledo with what appears and feels like step throat! Argh!!!!!

  5. In my working life, I was a claims adjuster.....I always dreaded a good rainstorm or snowstorm or ice storm because of the huge number of people who had accidents.....
Glad you are getting new tires....it will make you both feel so much more safe out there.

  6. Spending money on tires is like buying underwear -- it's necessary and people don't really notice. But you and Geezer will know you have those spiffy, safe, new tires, won't you? :)

  7. We had those same driving problems in Las Vegas where it never rains also!
