Snippets

A much more interesting view…not just the wall and sky I had upstairs. 2010.

Yesterday and Today

Himself: After burning himself out with many days of long hours, he attempted for almost two weeks to call HR about his vacation and didn’t get a return call. He finally got his boss, learned more tricks about cutting the virtual workload, and got his December vacation approved. They really like what he is doing and do not want to lose him. Progress. Great enthusiasm here.

Herself: …and the quilt blog too: Ommmmmmmmmmmmmm. I fight quilting, therefore I am.

My Babylonian Captivity: Do stop in and read Tugster's experience as a human shield. He writes that, “ i was captured in kuwait (where i was teaching in the kuwaiti air force)….”

Gratitude: To all those kind folks who give me rides to the Discovery shop and the grocery store, thank you so much.. Thank you to daughter Lenora for all the rides…and I got there on time too. To the Feasters who gathered yesterday to talk Lee.

  • None of this, “I quilt therefore I am stuff.” Not me. I usually fight it every inch of the way. Yesterday in the grey and rain, quilting went a little easier. I only lost my place three times and found an extra piece once. I suppose this is progress.

  • In the “Need to Know” department, friends of Lee are gathering all over town to have small memorials. Pictures were shared last night, good memories were smiled over, and it is comforting to know that the various other groups he belonged to are gathering in his memory too. Did clowns gather for Janey? Will we hear anything from Marion’s family? We all wait and no one phones the house. Perhaps I should gird my bravery and call?

  • In the “What Goes Around Comes Around” category, I bought some nice acid green linen napkins at an estate sale yesterday. When I opened the top drawer of the camel chest I use for linen storage, I found it full. I fluffed up the stack of placemats and photographed the top drawer filled to the brim. The bottom drawer was a composite of stuff, things, orts, and collectibles worn beyond their use date. Nope, I didn’t get rid of the two giant tablecloths, but yes, I did banish aprons, placemats, tablecloths and napkins I’m never going to use again. When I was done, there was room to insert the new acid green napkins. A pat on the back moment while I am laughing at myself for collecting so much stuff.

  1. OMG, in your before pict, I have those same checked napkins in my drawer and stuffed in also. I too unloaded a ton on linens when I couldn't get the drawer closed. LOL.

  2. I love napkins and am lost without them. I still have some which belonged to my ex-mother in law. Years ago I sent then to the laundry and they sent a note saying they probably wouldn't stand up to more laundering. I've been washing them and using them ever since.

  3. I'm always surprised to see we share so many things in common. I have variously colored napkins just like those blue fringed ones here. Mine are pink, yellow, blue--solid as well as checkered. I too need to thin out my herd.

  4. At least you use napkins and placemats. My husband is a paper towel, paper plate man. I wonder sometimes if I will live long enough to get to set a pretty table.

  5. Lee seems to live on in many peoples hearts. That must be a comfort to you.

  6. When we moved to Hawaii, we had to get rid of so much stuff. We sold or donated 2/3 of our belongings. I'm starting to collect stuff again, but I'm fighting the urge to accumulate again.

  7. I love how you make neat. I can never seem to get around to it. There is always something better to do, like playing solitaire, maybe. Hah!

  8. I love stuff like that. But I never use them. Just collect.

  9. Wonder why Marion's family isn't doing anything. We had a friend whose family did the same thing -- just sort of ignored the fact that she passed...

I think that room is WONDERFUL!!! So orderly and creative looking. I love it. And I think the fact that you can actually get a sewing machine to do what you want it to is freaking AWESOME. I don't have that kind of relationship with mine-- which has been in time out since 1980 -- a Singer model just sitting in the closet.

I also share your love of placemats and napkins. I don't use them near as frequently as I should.
