Simple Things

Flowers on the Camel Chest. Photos from the new house CD for the insurance person. 2011.

Yesterday and Today
Himself: Sleeping when he isn’t watching NCIS. He actually called in sick too….since he sounds really sick, they believed him.

Herself: Waking up a bit. There’s a world out there.

Oh, the mundane minutia of a common cold. NCIS has saved the day. They have been playing old ones that neither of us have seen on the USA channel. Even as I feel better, I’ve kept him company on the bed watching them.

I’ve also been crawling up and down stairs getting small things like laundry done. He did two loads of dishes, and today I did one. Progress.

At my worst, I’ve been watching the tree outside the bedroom window change with the light. Last night the tree was empowered by a cadmium red and orange sunset that took my breath away. Unfortunately, I was too tired to get my camera. This morning at dawn, with the hillside behind it golden, the leaves were almost in silhouette. By breakfast, it was a tree against a blue sky. At noon, the leaves were touched with silver. Today I remembered to get to the camera, but unfortunately all the pictures are boring.

Simple things. They leave me smiling.

After lunch, my brain was functional enough to renew two prescriptions plus get tickets to LA on Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner for next Tuesday. Something I said confused the automated voice system, and it wouldn’t recognize that I wanted to go up the coast in the morning and come home the same evening. I was functional enough at last to ask for an agent, and a very nice, real person got me tickets in business class at senior rates, then I remembered to call Bee to let her know my schedule.

Real progress on simple things I couldn’t do yesterday.

  1. I always felt a little guilty calling in sick...even though I was...thinking they probably did not believe me. I also made no effort to sound upbeat when I called. Glad one of you is well. Is the surfliner a boat?

  2. I'm glad to hear you're feeling a little better.

I'll have you know, I had USA on all day too; I know those old episodes so well I can identify them within the first few minutes -- but I still watch!

  6. I'm glad you're feeling better. I don't have cable, so no USA or I would have also spent the day watching NCIS. I'm sure I've missed plenty of episodes. I wonder if they are out on DVD.

  8. I think NCIS is being run non-stop -- forever.

Is that the train that goes from SD to Santa Barbara? We were thinking of doing that when we come out in March.

This cold really has knocked the pins out from under you two! -- I'm so sorry, but glad you're feeling a little better.

And you have leaves on your trees!!! :)
