2 Flying High

...in the distance.

The Blue Angels flew in from Yuma and flew right back out again.

Yesterday and Today
Himself: He was very glad he went, enjoyed Zoie, showed us the cars at the museum, and bought tickets to the “Glitz and Glam” opening. Today he deep cleaned his office area. G fixed the two pieces of art that I rammed with the truck.

Herself: HAPPY VALENTINES DAY TO YOU ALL!! Saturday, had a good time but could see little. Glad to share the day, but wished Lenora had wanted to come. Didn’t hear from her and was sad about it. I cleaned out garage filing cabinets of old paperwork, and made huge piles for a shredder.

Lessa and Zoie arrived early, and we headed downtown hoping we could find parking near the Maritime Museum. There were acres…..the Giant ten dollar parking lot was almost empty. We zipped right in, Parked and sauntered across the street, got everyone in for nothing, and were almost the first aboard the Berkley.

Top: Zoie on the top deck of the Berkley; Bottom: The America leaves with passengers from the Scripps Institute of Oceanography.

Lessa kept Zoie busy until show time with boat tours and food, G let me loose to buy one of the Kent books. I love Bolitho as a hero. I talked with everyone around us while G took pictures. One gentleman had joined the Navy in 1941 and spent the war years on a destroyer. After the war ended, he got out to help his father for a year. He rejoined in Aviation and was still in the Navy at the 50th Anniversary.

“We kept a helicopter in the air for 72 hours,” he said with a twinkle in his eye.

I asked, “How did you do that?”

“By hovering it this high” he laughed waving his hand a few feet off the deck.

The sun beat down. Zoie hid under the table. I shared sunscreen. Two Landing Craft Air Cushion, LCAC’s came roaring into the harbor and gave us a bit of a show. Parachutists jumped with ribbons of color trailing from their parachutes. The sound came on and the air parade began.

I confess, we could see little.

Each air craft was carefully identified, they told us the history of that aircraft, and there it was, a dot far, far across the bay.

Refueling in the air.

Folks sitting next to us told us that the Midway, the WWII carrier tied up south of us on the embarcadero, had sent hurried emails to its members Friday night. “Don’t come, they said. We are full. We are sending folks home.” They also told us the bridge was backed up on 5 to 163. Wall to wall audience everywhere….only the ones on North Island could see the airplanes well at all. We had fun anyway.

We left a little early roasted by the heat, and the air wing’s flight was late. We heard them roar over while we were at the Automotive Museum. That was ok after all.

  6. Too much sunshine? At the moment I can't imagine it, although I know in a couple of months I'll feel that way, too.

Happy Valentines day to you and the Geezer.

  8. I like the idea that everyone was saying don't bother and you doggedly go anyway. It was worth it too.

Can't imagine you guys needing sunscreen while we freeze our toes off... You're not that much further south!
