The Fair was a rolling success. Even the hamburger, cream puff, and fudge can be successfully overcome. Now we are off to pick Kay up from her cousin's house in Coronado, chat, eat, and take her to the airport.

I made the sheet cake. It rose to a gentle mound in the middle. Too much beating? Imagine, I get to make one of these a week for the next year. Yes, I shant eat any of it....or else.

  1. I made birthday cakes for years, but not sheet cakes. My sister, who always criticized my perfectly fine cakes, used to drop the cake pan flat on the floor before putting it into the oven. She said it removed the extraneous air.

I don't know. My mother and my sister stopped criticizing my cooking and baking when my kids basically told them not to talk like that.

  6. I also learned to tap the cake several times on the counter to get ride of the bubbles. Your determination not to eat any is wonderful and I wish you MUCH success.

  7. Yummy for the sheet cake. I entertained the thought of buying a single-layer cake at Safeway yesterday. Then I checked the price (7.99) and compared to the price of my baking it myself (about 3.00 if you count all the extra ingredients) and put the cake down and walked away, lol.

I ended up making lemon meringue pie instead, at that.

The fair sounds like fun, though!

  8. I thought the cakes were supposed to have that bumpy thing in the middle. Mine ALWAYS have that.
