Smalls 6

Views from the train: Snow on the tracks. 2007

  • Little pain, little discomfort at all. I felt as if my life had been given back to me. Everything that had been put on hold is now “go” again. Yesterday at work, I moved and walked and stood for hours without a twinge. Oh, hurrah! I had been most worried about our vacation. How can you take a vacation that involves some walking when you are in such pain you cannot think?

  • Slowly the great loads return to the Geezers work queue. Several outside contractors seem to not be with his company any longer. Their unfinished wrecks are now G’s. At least G now knows he can yell, “Stop!”

  • I spent most of the afternoon rewriting the entry on “Get Rich Quick Schemes.” It’s much better now as an essay. I had needed to put the same amount of work into last weeks essay.

  • My family changes. Many of the changes are due to the economy. One set of grandchild parents are selling everything and moving to Northern California. One daughter is or has left for Oregon. One grandchild is to visit. Another should be returning soon from Afghanistan. I’m very outside of, and sometimes I truly wish I was more a part of than sideways. I often remember my own grandma Maudie who loved me unconditionally and was always there for me. I would have liked to be that kind of grandma.

  • The wall clock is broken and our lives are late. We know it is broken yet we time our lives by it. Silly us. G arrived at the gym 45 miinutes late and called to tell me not to look at the clock. I’ll take that clock down next time I stand up. That will help. It’s little things like this that keep you grounded.

  1. Don't think I've ever seen algae look so lovely. Mixed news at G.'s company. Still keeping my fingers crossed that he can stay on.

  2. You are the perfect grandma. I only wish my grandma had been as funny and kind and as willing to listen as you.

  3. Beautiful photos today. You are a marvel. I hope your children and grandchildren realize that sooner rather than later. Happy to hear G's work has picked up. Looks like my daughter has a job too. Dianne

  4. I love the contrast and connection between the snow and the algae.

Times are tough. My son finally got a job, but he hasn't had a pay check yet so he has asked me for money once again to tide him over. Oh dear me.

  5. I always wanted to be a grandma like that too....but my son married a woman who already had two daughters. We love them but it just isn't the same....

  7. You have such a wonderful way with a camera!

Being pain free (or nearly so) is a blessing. How did you accomplish it??? I have fibromyalgia AND arthritis in my knees and would dearly love anything that could control it enough to be really mobile again instead of in tears by the end of a shopping expedition.

  8. I'm so glad you're feeling better, Mage. It's really hard to be cheerful when we're in pain.
