A Kay Kinda Day

Photos from the celebration used without permission.

I know everyone is tired of my Kay writing, but yesterday we three had a Kay kind of day. I need to write about it so I can remember it.

The ballroom was almost full half with Red Hat ladies and the other half with AA sponsees and family when we got there. Loud toe tapping music was played while family, friends, and folks who loved her spoke of how wonderful she was. And she was.

Pictures were shown, food was served, and the Red Hat ladies waded in the waterfall in memory of their off-the-wall friend. No chocolate was served….her favorite food group, but a good time was had anyway.

We grabbed Lessa, and we took her on another favorite thing of Kay’s, “retail therapy” which is second only to her “clothes folding therapy.” Lessa remembers proudly when Kay took her to try on her first bra. I was a member of the no-bra generation and never thought to do this. Kay did. This day, in JC Penney’s, Lessa picked out PJ’s, and in “I can never afford to shop here ma” Coldwater Creek, she found a shirt as did I.

We spent a lot of money. Oh, Kay would have laughed at us.

After the shopping and window-shopping, G took us down to Godiva. We indulged in rich, fattening, chocolate truffles and talked of Kay. Laughed a bit too. She would have loved it all.

  1. I so wish you the best as you go through this memories and as time passes you remember as if for the first time, that she has really passed on. You are one lucky woman to have these precious souls in your life! I admit that I have refused to see the doc. I did ice-on and ice-off for two full days and took aspirin, Tylenol or Aleve for swelling and pain. I am much better today...so there is no cracking or breaking.

  3. I bet there will probably be a Kay kinds of days for sometime to come. Just keep writing, talking, shopping if you can. Bottled up stuff just hurts us later. The sad scabs over but the hurt I think becomes part of who we are just like the good memories do. I think its a natural part of being alive. Hugs to you.

  5. Love that retail therapy! I like Coldwater Creek, too, and I can't afford to shop there either but I usually find a sale I can swing from time to time. Kay seems more beautiful the more you write about her! She'd be so touched.
