11 A Special Holiday Sale

The first two bookcases on the left are holiday books I’ve been saving all year.

Veterans Day. Today G has to work. I’ll swim and work at the Discovery shop. No time for parades or flag waving today. We are having a special two day holiday Sale at the store, and many of us were there last night from three to six to bring it all out and put it on display.

The food was really good too. I made deviled eggs, and the Geester reported that they were good. I didn’t get one. I can say that the food was really good, but there was a cherry cobbler that was superior to any I had ever had before. I had two helpings.

Today I will get to the store early, leave by one, and hopefully hide from the crush before dinner with the Captain.

From Pat, we have the gift of this poem for the day. John McCrae an exhausted surgeon angered by the slaughter at Ypres and after witnessing the death of a friend wrote:

..........................In Flanders Fields

..........................In Flanders fields the poppies blow
..........................Between the crosses, row on row,
..........................That mark our place; and in the sky
..........................The larks, still bravely singing, fly
..........................Scarce heard amid the guns below.

..........................We are the Dead. Short days ago
..........................We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
..........................Loved and were loved, and now we lie
..........................In Flanders fields.

..........................Take up our quarrel with the foe:
..........................To you from failing hands we throw
..........................The torch; be yours to hold it high.
..........................If ye break faith with us who die
..........................We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
..........................In Flanders fields.

Nothing like a neatly stacked book shelf, so many books to go through and explore ....
