Out

I confess. I’m a failure. Some things I cook really well, and others come out awful.

I make a great beef burgundy, but boy my scalloped potatoes didn’t. I’m queen of meat balls in any form, but this time my pea soup needed stirring far more than it got. Yes, the pan is soaking. Yes, parts of the stove top are soaking too as the soup boiled over at the very start. At least we know all the smoke alarms really work.

This year, instead of cooking old fashioned recipes, perhaps modern cooking techniques and my inattentions might work well together. Weight Watchers will get top billing around here anyway next year. I’ll be able to walk and live better if I get a few more pounds off….actually lots more pounds off.

So tonight you can find me eating out. Wonderful stuff “out.”

  1. I've had cooking disasters like that. Practice makes perfect. Perhaps I will try to make things a bit more perfect in 2012??

  3. I am all about the eating...not the cooking and washing! So sorry about that...it really smelled so good out here!

  4. I've had a few mishaps myself. One Christmas I pulled a pan of special baked beans out of the oven, hit the rack and dumped the whole LARGE pan all over the inside of the oven....Oh what a mess it was to clean up after it cooled enough for me to even touch the interior of that oven.
Eating out...great way to end the day.

  5. I used to be an excellent cook -- even won a cooking contest. Now the best thing I make for dinner is reservations! LOL

  6. I'm a failure too, at blogging. Can't seem to get the steam up for writing. I'm also a failure at cooking anything except comfort food with lots of gravies and sauces. This year I did my homemade manicotti for Christmas Eve dinner for the whole family--it was good but I didn't make enough sauce! Leftovers were great last night--with a new batch of sauce! Happy New Year!

  7. To answer your query, you can omit the oyster sauce since you already have soy sauce (shoyu). But I wouldn't double up on the soy sauce, as it would be too salty. But oyster sauce can be found in Asian stores. It has a wonderful flavor! HAPPY AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR!

  8. I'm afraid I'm not a great cook. I rely heavily on perfectly written recipes. I wash pretty well too, especially when I use the dishwasher.
