Hair, Hair... With update

1961, 1967, 1968…a better view of 1968.

1971, 1979, 1985.

1989, 1990, 1993.

1997, 2001, 2005.

2008, 2009, 2011.

“Hair, hair, beautiful hair,” so the song goes. I never appreciated it until recently. It was a medium brown with red highlights and a slight curl, and all I saw it as was a bother. I wasn’t good at doing things with it….still am not, and usually I wore a scarf or a hat. Still do, actually.

I’m getting my now graying hair cut, yet again, tonight, and I want an upgrade. I now have thin, stringy hair, that’s retreating far above its once high hairline. I refuse to have helmet hair, but perhaps my talented and modern hair dresser can make me cute?

Is that an option, I wonder?

It's delightfully curly every which way...surprisingly so. The photo shows the hair still wet, but it fluffs up very nicely. Still perky. I like it.

  1. Mostly I'm just glad I have some. I never did have much, but when I had none at all...

And a ball cap, unfortunately, was not a good alternative, because people called me "sir."

  2. I was always blessed with good wavy hair, but I never appreciated it until, like now, it is thinning and graying and matching nicely the lines in my face!

  4. Ah, a little less hair on my head too, and more hair on my chin. :-)

  7. Good luck. Love the series of photos. I had seen one of you when you were very young and wondered how you got to where you are. Maybe I will try this some day (posting a string of photos). Thanks for stopping by my blog yesterday. I miss you when you are not around. Dianne

  8. You're already cute, Mage. I won't do anything fancy with my hair because I keep thinking it will fall out faster than it already is.

  9. Absolutely possible. Let me clue you in on something I discovered when I re-grew my hair after chemo. Yes, like Harriet, I had none at all and it made me appreciate any and all I have now. I let it go natural--and found out it's a streaked ashy black (the kind you get when you start out tow-headed blonde and darken as you age) and I was wasting close to $100 each month trying to keep it young looking. It looks way better now--especially when I wear certain colors--and I've learned my best length is between short and medium. I wash it only when it needs it (once or twice a week unless I'm dressing up to go someplace special) and I call the stylist when I think it needs a trim--not the usual standing 6-week appointment. I also found some perfect "products" I keep at home to make the hair I have that keeps my head all nice and warm--cannot overestimate the value of that--and realizing I've never been nor will be beautiful, I mostly feel fine about the way I present to the world. (If that's not convincing enough, I just remember that I don't have to look at myself except if I choose to!) :) It's all about attitude, and Mage, with that smile of yours you're way ahead of most of us!!!!
