The Traveling Geezer Show

No, we are not packed yet, but hopefully by October we will be on our way to eleven days at the Smithsonian’s myriads of museums. We will be there October 15th to the 25th. The Geezer has always wanted to go, and I last went in 1962 when all that existed was the Castle and a shed on the rear. We are so excited we quiver while we wait.

Last week, The Geezer called to discover there were no appointments with our travel agent on Saturdays. So yesterday, we went up to the AAA offices early only to discover a couple ahead of us. That was ok, we waited patiently while reading all those tantalizing materials left out on a nearby table top for us to browse. Daydream stuff. In the office, she found us a discount package that got us a hotel just blocks from the Smithsonian and round trip air within our budget.

Now we can start daydreaming in reality. Physical stuff first. I need to knock out this four week old cold now turned into laryngitis before I can move on. I’ll arrange to have a shot before we leave so I can walk. The museums have wheel chairs, and I am not above getting one for the duration of each visit. I already have trolley and bus metro schedules. The hotel is lovely. I have a blogger friend there….the Great Schmidley who I am looking forward to meeting. Bee and Mikey may be there also. What good stuff.

He made it to his museum which had crowds of white, middle class families instead of the usual masses of Hispanic or Japanese visitors. He also made it home to pick me up and back out into the hinterlands for dinner at DZ Akins, our version of a New York Jewish Deli, with the reduced Feasters. Yes, I had the liverwurst which I dearly love and a bowl of matzo ball soup. I didn’t eat it all as I saved room for a hot fudge Sunday. Imagine that.

It’s time to conquer all ills, get in shape to fighting weight again. Maybe with the time change, I can drive myself to the WW meetings? Smithsonian, here we come.

  2. Well, since we are a little more than an hour's drive from the museums you can rent a car and head down this way for a day or two if you are up to that. If not, perhaps we could meet up there for lunch one day?

  3. AND be sure that you are in good health or get the wheelchair because even in the museums there is LOTS of walking.

  6. We might have wheel chairs together. I have been concerned because I can' walk around on those hard floors and I was afraid you were a hard charger. Dianne

  8. Well at least you have time to get in shape and I hope you can throw off the pesky bug - or whatever it is very soon.

  10. You'll have fun, I have no doubts. I want to hear more about the hotel afterwards. They're all so expensive there. Be sure and let us know.
