I Confess

I confess.  Whenever I play the Geezers favorite computer game, I fall asleep.  Solitaire is not me.

So yesterday after G had headed to work, I dumbly braved a game of solitaire on the computer.  Did I think I could beat the sleep gremlin?  Usually this happens only in small, dusty, closed in rooms.  My favorite Alanon meeting on Mondays….I embarrassed myself once.  I used to go to sleep every single Senior Writing Class at college.  I thought I was done with sleeping, but no.

“You haven’t done it in class or in regular meetings yet,” the Geezer says.

But solitaire gets me every time.

Yesterday when I realized I’d lost half an hour, I turned off the computer and ran to the bigger and airier rooms.  Staggering up and down the stairs, the laundry got finished.  Puff, Puff.  The bed got made.  A wonderful Dick Francis finished too.  Hot Money.  What gifts that man had to write so well, to think in so convoluted a fashion so very well.

Dinner with the Feasters was a delight with a very powerful ending.  Jean, the wife of my biology professor told us afterwards that she’d been diagnosed with bone cancer.  No chemo, no radiation, just one pill every morning.  I was left worrying and praying for her.

  1. Good grief. You are so good at entertaining yourself. When I finish my degree in three weeks I think I will return to Alanon meetings. Maybe

    I'm on the pity pot today because David is so tired, he falls asleep all the time, where ever he is, and two of my three kids are unreachable by cell phone. The third was shaving while standing on one foot which he hurt in a car accident long ago and which is driving him nuts now (arthritis). So how can you keep a kid who is shaving while standing on one foot on the phone. I wish I knew how to play solitaire. Dianne

  2. As always the rose photos are so lovely....
    I'm sorry to hear about your friend ~ that is very sad indeed.
    I feel sleepy when I am in a warm room reading a book....so I can understand why you had the need to move.

  4. Another perfect rose!!! It brought to mind a fav Dorothy Parker poem:

    A single flow'r he sent me, since we met.
    All tenderly his messenger he chose;
    Deep-hearted, pure, with scented dew still wet -
    One perfect rose.

    I knew the language of the floweret;
    'My fragile leaves,' it said, 'his heart enclose.'
    Love long has taken for his amulet
    One perfect rose.

    Why is it no one ever sent me yet
    One perfect limousine, do you suppose?
    Ah no, it's always just my luck to get
    One perfect rose.

    Just reading blogs entertains/distracts me for hours!!!

  5. I nod off watching Poirot that I had seen before, I nod off reading my book before bed, I nod off on long drives, I nod off on long flights, but thus far NOT at meetings!

  6. I can sleep almost anywhere these days, especially in a darkened room, like classes using Powerpoint. Very embarrassing.

    I'm sorry about your friend, but I've decided if I were to get a tumor, I would do the same. All of the treatments take away parts of your life more surely than the cancer.

  7. Husband used to nod of to sleep at all sorts of inopportune times. Then he got a c-pap machine for the sleep apnea, and he doesn't have that trouble any more. It has done wonders for him. Me, it keeps me awake to have the machine on.

  9. That is news one doesn't want to hear.
    I'm beginning to associate you with beautiful roses - which can't be bad.
    I've never played solitaire
    and as there are lots of things that send me to sleep when I should be bright and chirpy - I'll pass:)
