Laughing All the Way

Throwing the Ball, 2011.

  • The help center at Open Diary asked if my problems with OD had been resolved.  I replied that yes they seemed fixed, but unfortunately things hadn’t quite returned to normal.  Once I used to get about 20 notes a day, note hog me, but now 14 were the norm.  I threw the ball back in their court.  Knowing OD, I’ll probably not get a response for a couple of months.

  • Home office.  It works.  Most of the days are silent, which please me, but there are times he cranks the old timey rock and roll up semi full blast.  “I thought you would like that,” he says with an innocent look on his face.  Now he is wearing headphones.  I laughed.  I’m gone a good hunk of three days during the week, and I find that works well too.  He get’s his alone time, and I still have computer access when I need it.

  • Did you see that video about The broken guitar on Willy and Wilma’s blog?  Now here’s the perfect example of humor winning the day.  No Taylor guitars were damaged in the making of this video they assured us.

Willy says, “A musician named Dave Carroll recently had difficulty with United Airlines. United apparently damaged his treasured Taylor guitar ($3500) during a flight. Dave spent over 9 months trying to get United to pay for damages caused by baggage handlers to his custom Taylor guitar. During his final exchange with the United Customer Relations Manager, he stated that he was left with no choice other than to create a music video for YouTube exposing their lack of cooperation. The Manager responded: "Good luck with that one, pal."

So he posted a retaliatory video on YouTube. The video has since received over 6 million hits. United Airlines contacted the musician and attempted settlement in exchange for pulling the video. Naturally his response was: "Good luck with that one, pal."

Taylor Guitars sent the musician 2 new custom guitars in appreciation for the product recognition from the video that has led to a sharp increase in orders.”

  • I got the chance to photograph the upcoming jewelry sale goodies yesterday.  I already have my eye on one or two outrageous pieces.  In the past, I haven’t leapt fast enough, and by the time I reached the pieces they were gone.  It doesn’t matter that the sale is next week or that I live blocks away, I’m keeping my eye on one bracelet and perhaps a pin.  Distance doesn’t matter to those who covet bracelets.

  2. Love the guitar story. I should have made a video about my last encounter with United Airlines. I'm just hoping there will never be another one.

  3. Not sure what OD is but glad you maintain an even balance of power their. I buy less and less bling these days unless it is really cheap and would catch my granddaughter's eye!

  5. I listened to the video. I love it. I am flying United in the fall, OMG what have I done? United had a direct flight at the time I wanted it.
