A New Start

It’s the first day of many years to come. G starts work at home today, and already I am interfering. Caretaking. Asking questions. Not ok. I screech to a halt. Hiding my head.

Now, he’s off to the gym in my truck, and I will go later in his car. We can switch there. Later on his lunch hour, we are taking the car in for long deferred maintenance. The brake squeak, the whine at 60mph, that sort of thing. Mine is emitting that extreme exhaust smell that indicates a dying catalytic converter. Somewhere along in here, Grumpy also needs to go into the shop.

The highlight of the weekend was news that Lessa got not one but two really goodsized scholarships. Really good stuff.

Now I am off to swim, finish a poem for tomorrow, finish the laundry from yesterday, and think thin. Our pants no longer fit. More gym time and less food is the mantra of the upcoming months. Finishing things for a new start.

  1. When I worked at home (transcribing from tapes), my husband could never understand that I was on someone's clock. I also learned to save everything before I went out to deliver my typing, because he would fool with the connection and I could come home to the C:> prompt.

If I accused him, he would deny it. I would say I could tell, and he would say something like, "it was only off for a minute."

  3. Your photo today is looking downright Dutch. Memento Mori with the fly.

We drive old clunkers too. After I finish the semester, I plan to drag my poor body to the pool again. Maybe I will even cook something. Dianne

  8. Congratulations to Lessa....all of you must be so proud.
And the fact that you even realized you were interrupting your husband "at work" is a good sign that you will not do it often. Someone in MY life doesn't pay attention when I am blogging or writing or reading and drives me crazy!

  10. Yae for the scholarships!!! I wish my son could get one for his grad school.

Mage, thanks so much for visiting and commenting when I was away. My life is so crazy these days with finishing my blog posts, getting ready for my daughter's visit and working on the travel photo album for my mom. Sigh.... I should be back to normal by June. I hope.

  11. Great news about Lessa! And I think it's rare to find a poet and artist who understands catalytic converter. Kudos!
