Shooting the Rose

Some bloggers photograph landscapes, other’s shoot birds or the beauty around them.  I’m drawn to the drama I find through my lens.  Roses offer drama in spades.

Armed with camera in hand, I’ll be in the valley from after dinner on today.  If we get there early enough, I’ll be able to catch a few shots of roses before the Ice Cream Social.  Then, for the next three days, I’ll be out in the walkways with my camera on macro trying to catch an entertaining rose for you.

In July there’s Comic Con.  The ticketing procedures last year were so convoluted that we didn’t get to go.  Comic Con is another source of wonderful photographs every year, but not for us.  This year we got member ID’s, but lost out in the first round ticketing draft.  Later in the second round, G was able to buy one four day pass and one single day ticket.  Sunday.

I was thinking I could come down to the convention center one of the afternoons.  I could get a couple of hours in photographing costumes from the sidewalk while G was inside.  We could meet up at dinner time and have dinner in one of the myriads of good eating spots right there around the ballpark and the convention center.

I bet I still get some good photographs.

I like the new look to your comments. Is that your or Blogger?

  3. Tasty rose, and I'm excited to see your Comic Con picts. My sons and I used to go to the ones in Seattle when we lived there. Not as big as yours of course, but satisfying. We got pictures of them with William Shatner once. Fun stuff.

  6. Lucky you with access to those beautiful roses. I got the book you recommended. I didn't know Hodgeson (?) had written something other than Secret Garden. I got the Kindle version. Thanks for the tip.

  7. So excited that you will join the paparazzi at the convention! I think it might be really fun to do kind of a red carpet thing with all of those characters. Lovely lovely thoughts on shooting the rose, too.

  8. Mage, I soo agree with you about roses. They amaze me. I'm totally jealous that you all are experiencing them now! We'll have to wait a while -- although I have seen some buds, they're small. I'd say we're about 3 weeks from the first flush.
