Nooking

Today is the day I plan to curl up in that chair and learn for myself how to download, read, and return books on “Open Library.”  I’m sure it is simple, but I haven’t done it yet.  Ditto for my local library.  Their site seems easy to use, and the authors I was looking for are available.  G downloaded one for me earlier in the week, but I need to know how to do this by myself.

G downloaded a couple of mysteries for me from the Nook site too, but I find their “free pages” really aren’t very free.  Those books that are free seem to be truly obscure or very deep.  When I’m on a train or plane, I don’t want a book requiring thinking.  My brain wants old familiar, friendly reading that I can look away from often and will leave me with a smile at the end.

As the temperature begins its rise here again today I’ll be sitting in the shade reading something that delights me.   Hopefully the shade is cool.

  • Himself:  ”Wonderful day on the farm.”  Direct quote from the Geezer.
  • Herself:  Any day playing with books is a good day.
  • Reading:  ”The Monument Men,” which is a misnomer as there were women involved too.Balance:  Our scale says one thing, there’s adds one and a half pounds.  I still lost weight.

  1. Sounds like a wonderful day. The best I can compare it with is my biweekly walk down the street to the bookmobile.

  2. I have never tried to borrow books from the public library on my Kindle. Seems complicated. Meanwhile, I have found it easier to read in depth, rather than skim, by reading just one chapter a day. If I try to do more, I end up skimming and not understanding the book at all. Enjoy your day. I love the way you arranged your living room.

  3. Oddly enough I have been planning on setting aside some time to download some library books on my Kindle. Just been too busy.

  4. At first I thought you said "nookying." Entirely different matter.

  5. I hadn't thought about the kind of "free" books being offered. Hmmm. I could load books from my library on my little laptop if I could figure it out.

  6. I've only "borrowed" one book online from my library...Once I figured it out; it was easy...but now I will have to relearn now to do that again. LOL. Love the reading area in your home.

  7. That's the kind of book I like, Mage. I still haven't been able to borrow anything from the library onto my Kindle. They're always out of the ones I want to read.

That reading area of yours is just gorgeous!!! I would love to snuggle down there to read.

  9. Do we live in parallel worlds? Yesterday, I borrowed my first free book, Penny Marshall's autobiography, My Mother was Mad. I think that's the title. Good luck. Ain't it fun in the brave new world of electronics? Dianne

  10. One of these days, I'll get an e-reader and then I'll be in the same boat.

I'm glad you enjoyed my animal babies.. it's a bit nuts around mealtime. I live in the city.. suburbs to be more precise but we're hoping to move to the country before too much longer. Thanks always for stopping by. :)

  11. Ha ha. Some of my best friends are leftists. David and I are Independents most of the time, and Blue Dog Democrats here in Virginia (social liberals and fiscal conservatives).

Folks with extreme points of View often mistake us for "the other."

  12. Dear Mage,

Thanks so much for continuing to post Captain Albert's blog.

It is so interesting to follow his adventures being the Captain of The Holland America Line's Statendam.

Right now he is in Alaska but later this year we will be able to sail with him to Tahiti.

I follow your blog ,too and I am happy that everything seems to be
    good for you and G.

I love your reading chair and the rest of that delightful room.
