The Captain turned me on to Google Reader. It’s an RSS service, like your blog roll or
favorites, or bookmark lists, where you can go to read all your favorites at
once. It’s a news service where all the
news junkies of the world can get updated all at once. I use it to read my blogging friends out here
in the big wide web world. The Reader also
lists all the unread entries for a blog or which blogs have no entries. It is a very useful tool.
As of July 1, Google Reader is dead.
Hitting myself about the head and shoulders, beating my
brow, I set out to discover if there was a substitute. C/NET offers an article titled, “Google
Reader is dying but we have five worthy alternatives.” Nice article.
That first service seemed just what I needed, so I downloaded the
app. Me and an app.
As far as I can see, there’s my Google Reader list complete. I
haven’t figured out how to see it all at once yet.
What if I’d much rather read Maritime Matters first instead of Joan’s
Dog Blog? I’ll spend some time playing
with it tomorrow.
Today I’ll dust.
There are priorities.
Some interesting choices there. Pardon me if I choose not to look for a Google alternative. Google has done a lot in the past year or two to diminish my trust.

ReplyDeleteI'm glad I didn't get too used to the google reader since I was destined to lose it anyhow. Instead, I've switched my favs onto my toolbar. I don't know why it's so much easier to read them daily that way, as opposed to a reader service. I think I qualify as very lazy when I'm online. Is there an app for that?
ReplyDeleteI never got into the Google reader...always messed it up...I have a "favorites" list which I check every day or so....works well for me.,

I have a Google account I never use. Frankly, I am confused with the software I do use.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the book tip, I will check it out. I read part of John Adams, but have not really read much McCullough. Your enthusiasm is inspirational. I am on a crash "read about the presidents" self-taught course, so I just might check out this book on the Panama Canal.
Nash did my hair, so its more Lebanese than Argentinian. Vivianne does my hair when Nash is away for 3 weeks in Lebanon each year. I also know her because my daughter taught her kids.

I just read your post on Feedly. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. I can't seem to make the blog names... with posts I've read.. disappear.

Here's the other thing.. it's powered by Google Reader. I don't know if it will disappear at the same time GR does.
I just can't add another thing to my life. I can't seem to finish the books I've borrowed from the library on my Kindle, do my blog, and do everything else in my life. Yikes!
