0654: The great Geezer began rebuilding the small closet last night. This morning, I woke up
remembering that we had needed to get the carpet cleaned before we began moving
back in. After the toilet overflowed
onto two boxes of books, I remembered that this toilet has been in need of help
for a while. G helped in the cleanup as
I unboxed books. I was much relieved to
find our first edition big book was safely wrapped in a zip lock bag. He will call the plumber and the Stanley
Steamer folks while I am at work. More
later…..
0839: The carpet cleaners are coming today. The plumbers can come today too. Both at the same time. The Geezer said something about the Quieter Home Program too. I'm laughing and going to work. Terrible me.
1608: Came home to wet floors and a toilet that works. It's a very old low flow toilet that is too low flow. The Quieter Home folks are very upset we cleaned the carpet without telling them. Hi there, G is upset that they lied and said the electrician called in sick when he was on another job. We didn't need too pay 200 bucks for a hotel, he reminds me. I'm calm and doing well eating nuts.
1923: The manager told G not to do anything more to the place until the manager told him he could. G’s upstairs now with fans on the carpet and wood to create his new closet. I understand the program needs to access things, but we began packing on April 3. Obviously, I thought it would be a faster process. He thinks he is fine. “Not near any windows,” he tells me. After getting chewed out, I would think that we need to stay out of their way. Nope. He wants to see if his stuff will fit in the smaller closet. It all did.

It used to be my husband who caused the overflows. (He used to flush stuff from the wastebasket, in order to "save bags," which were free grocery bags.) Eventually I had to replace the toilet, and I got a low-volume, ecology-friendly model.
ReplyDeleteHusband is now in a nursing home, but I have a teen here who clogs the john regularly. The word is clueless. You are fortunate to have your Geezer.
oh no, not the books. Glad you and the first edition survived.
ReplyDeleteI call it the "but first" rule -- you know. "I'm going to mop the floor but first . . .
ReplyDeletelol Have fun!!!!
Your home is going to be so clean once all the work is completed. I bet you are counting the days.
ReplyDeleteDepression/New Deal statuary is a sight to behold. The one pictured in your photo looks like the statue found at the ends of the Memorial Bridge, or in front of the Labor Dept, and near the Capitol?
ReplyDeleteDianne
PS the post oak is not dead. Some dead branches but it has fluffed out with new leaves. The squirrel who lives in the upper branches must be relieved.
I looked at the photo again. I think this is the one near the Labor Department, or what was the Labor Dept. Hard to tell in this town of musical chairs. (and statuary too, apparently). Dianne
ReplyDeleteThe quieter home program!!! Love it. Gee if it isn't something it is something else. So sorry. Hang in there.
ReplyDeleteWill try to find the name of the sculpter. I've seen it before. I know it was a WPA project.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad things are getting cleaned and done, but an overflowing toilet would have really frazzled me. Glad to see the great G keeps calm and gets things done.
