Counting Down

Ugly grey day today.

The monsoonal moisture is moving up from the south this morning, and the ground is actually wet.  I had to use the windshield wipers when I went swimming this morning.  Rain drops fell on all our heads and we laughed about it as we jumped up and down.

I’m beginning to wind down my day-to-day activities.  It was fun to bob around in the pool and hot tub with friends this morning, but it was also time to say that I would be vanishing after next Wednesday.  Yesterday at work, I said the same thing to our boss, Stephanie.

“I’ll miss you,” she told me.

Miss me probably because she would have to post our stuff to Facebook instead of me.  She’s found volunteers to work with the books, but not Facebook yet.  Yes, even a venerable, old institution like the American Cancer Society updates its thrift store pages several times a week.  For the last while, it’s been me doing the updating, and I’ve truly enjoyed it.

“As soon as I can walk, I will be back in to take pictures for you,” I told her.

She smiled faintly.

My writing workshop went on hiatus for me on Tuesday.  I was so uncomfortable in my chair that I couldn’t hold still for the readings that flowed around me.  Enough misery, thank you.  I truly hated to tell the instructor I was quitting for a while, but I went home feeling much more comfortable with myself.

The “Lines in the Sand” are set now: costumes are done for Comic Con, breakfast with Daughter-in-Law/mother of five of our grandchildren on Sunday, pre-op with  the surgeon and one more blood draw on the 15th, and The Geezer’s stitches out on Tuesday.  Wednesday is the last day I work at the Discovery Shop before surgery, and after work we pick up our badges at the Town and Country Motel.  Comic Con is Thursday through Sunday with pain meds to end on Friday the 19th.  Mercy Hospital pre-op is on the 23rd, another doctor’s appointment is on the 24th, and on the 25th, I go in at 0515 as the first surgery of the day.

Perhaps it has a better ordered reality if I write it all down.

Life is Really in the Footnotes:
  • Himself:  Ball game with two friend in the program last night, the Padres lost again.  Today he is too work driven for me.
  • Herself:  Want to start a kids book about Grumpy….that may or may not be a good idea.  House is switching to blue again for the hot summer months.  Dinner: Tostadas.
  • Reading:  Watching more  season three of “West Wing.”  Have a new book in hand called “HTML Goodies”.

  • Balance:  It’s hard to achieve some times.  But that’s what it’s about.

    1. It sounds like you have it all planned out. I certainly hope it goes as scheduled. My life lately is just a series of chaos every day...Nothing happens as it is supposed to go and husband and I just keep going in circles waiting for the merry-go-round to stop and let us off.

    2. I've been thinking about you as I drive by the Cherrydale rehab near me. Thinking about you next week also. Praying all goes well. I suspect you will be like David and hardly notice what's going on around you. Thinking about George too. They also serve who only sit and wait then drive back and forth for barely remembered visits. Be sure to take a good bath before the big day, you won't get the chance to do it again for a while. Dianne

    7. This surgery is kind of like that wedding I just went through. It will all be finished with success and patience. If a few things go wrong, I assure you that they will be minor. Be happy and look forward to a new you!

    8. Yes, there is a certain comfort in writing it all down and checking it off. My thoughts and prayers are with you, too, Mage.

Having your surgery the first of the day is a good thing.

My pre-ops are all done. I donated blood for myself, but there seems to be a problem. They put it in the wrong bag so I may not be able to use it. One more type and screen 72 hours before. My surgery is on the 18th at 9:45.

    11. So it sounds as if you're (mostly) all set for your big day. Thankfully nothing lasts forever, and before you know it that dreaded day will be over and you on your way to mobility once more. I understand from people who've done it that you won't be sorry in the long run. Thinking of you!!!! (I almost forgot re the children's book--Disney Pixar sure made a fortune with CARS. Why not Grumpy the truck--he may be old but he's still running...jut like us! ;-)
