An Extravaganza

Volunteers help set up for the Discovery Shop Christmas Extravaganza.

All year long we save Holiday décor and books.  Someone sorts it out as it comes in, then the boss goes over it one more time before it’s priced.  This year, Bill priced most of it, and carried the heavy boxes upstairs into storage.

Yesterday at four PM, Bill, Keith, and another Bill carried all the boxes down and a horde of volunteers began putting the holiday things out on the floor.  George worked through lunch, and we were there to help with the boxes.  The boss had him carry my four saved plastic bins of books out, and I made room for the new.

The boss prepares the shop for the change over.  Tables are emptied, displays are changed, and the store is readied for this once a year extravaganza.  And it is.  Today there will be a long line waiting to get in at ten.  I will be hiding in the back taking in the old.  Yes, there will be Holiday donations coming in, few Hanukkah things this year, and I wish there were more.  We will see.

  6. Wow.. what an event. I can see why there would be so few Hanukkah items. When it comes to this time of the year, Hanukkah is the menorah-ty event. ;)

  7. It looks fantastic! And it obviously has a reputation with those crowds who come (each year, I imagine.)
