Merry Christmas Open Diary Friends

1950’s stripey balls.

  • G’s starts his day trying to get into Open Diary (OD).  This was the earliest of the blogging hive sites, and it has slowly begun fading away into nothing over a year or more.  I used to use Blogger as my backup pages when Open Diary began fading.  Now neither G nor I can access OD at all though we both have paid accounts.  While OD has been down, one friend, Dave, has died and we don’t know why.  Some friends have found us on Facebook, and other’s found us here.  I do try to leave clear road markers.  I really miss the many friends I made there, so today I wish them a Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday from both my Blogger and WordPress accounts.

  • I need to check my shelves and shop for Christmas Eve.  Grandma Maudies Wassail needs cider, oranges, cloves, and a couple of sticks of cinnamon.  I have the spices but not the oranges or cider.  I start it simmering when I get up, and serve when the guests arrive.  Most folks I asked had other plans, but a few will squeeze us in.  That will do nicely as we only really seat six.

  • Took a tablespoon of cough syrup last night, and it got stuck going down.  I remember my grandma coughing this badly with her emphysema.  I’m still hacking this morning, and remembering how frightened I was when grandma coughed this way.  The cough is now quietly fading away just out of reach of any cures this morning.  No pool…I can’t breathe without coughing.  I’m hoping I don’t frighten any of the old lady volunteers with my hacking today at the store.  I’m not contagious, just coughing.

Life is Really in the Footnotes:
  • http://geeeee-zer.blogspot.com/>Himself: Work finally began slacking off yesterday afternoon.  He’s been exceptionally busy throughtout this cold.
  • Herself:  I lived through the antibiotic, got the teeth cleaned where the dentist found two cavities.  I have an appointment after the holidays to get them filled.  We both feel these cavities very odd with my rabid teeth brushing and flossing.  Watched several TV shows from the warm comfort of the bed before I started coughing.  Still enjoying “Almost Human.”
  • Reading:  Enjoying the Meacham volume “Franklin and Winston.”  Winston is well drawn, but his portrait of Franklin is penned with a more negative hand.
  • Balance:  Remembering to write things in the appointment book.

  5. Thank you for your Christmas greetings. I hope you and The Geezer have a lovely one, including a great Christmas Eve.
My wish for Christmas, for all on Open Diary, is that it is back up and running by then. I and a number of others have been writing on Prose Box, are gradually building up a little community there. The longer OD is down, the more people there will be who move permanently to PB, unfortunately for OD.
I hope your cough goes away before Christmas.

  6. Re Franklin, I enjoyed 'FDR and the Jews' this past year. He had a tough row to hoe, but did it well. He was great. Good to get all perspectives I think. Dianne

PS I take Singular for allergies.

Love the ornaments! Will they be on a tree?

Continue to take care of your health as best you can.

  9. Blogger...actually the browsers that work with Blogger are keeping me from changing the colors and fonts on my header template part. I have tried and tried, and it is still hard to see since it is RED! Maybe after the holidays I will figure it out. I also get a cough now and again and I have been told that it is a touch of asthma. Have a TERRIFIC holiday party!

  10. Oh the photos of the striped ornaments! My mother had some similar to those until they lost their stripes after years of little and big hands handling them.

This comes with thoughts for a cough-free you.

  14. The wassail sounds delish.
Coughs can be such a nuisance.
I find it helps to avoid mucous forming stuff like yoghourt, clotted cream etc - which I'm sure you know all about.
