Artfully Glass

Dale Chihuly Glass pieces at the San Diego Mingei Museum.

I thought I would amuse you with something beautiful and light after the day of heavy earing.  Glass.  I’d like to have a piece or two, especially of Dale Chihuly’s art glass work.

Chihuly writes,
“The Baskets turned out to be one of the best ideas I ever had. I had seen some beautiful Northwest Coast Indian baskets at the Washington State Historical Society, and I was struck by the grace of their slumped, sagging forms. I wanted to capture this grace in glass. The breakthrough for me was recognizing that heat was the tool to be used with gravity to make these forms.” –Chihuly

  1. I haven't often thought of glass as art but this work is inspiring, the shapes and colours. Thanks for the eye opener.

  3. I'm mad about glass. Have several small pieces and have visited many glass factories here on the east coast, including Fosteiar in WV and Wheaton in NJ. Also watched it being made in Spain. Love it. I need to visit the Mingei.

  5. I love glass too and really enjoyed the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum in Seattle this past spring. I think the glass boat display was my favorite... or maybe the garden... Hmmm...
