Christmas Lights

Chest high boxes.

It’s that time of year again.  The only topic at the pool this morning was the tree.  Are you having a tree?  Is your tree up yet?  How big is it this year?  What a varied lot of answers I heard.
Tree at the Christmas Lights store.

Detail of a tree at the Christmas Lights store.

Like me, this year most of us are putting up a small tree or none at all.  I heard no one say they were getting a real tree.  Three admitted to none at all, and one said she had a two-foot tall fake tree.  We have Duck’s two-foot tall, fake tree, so I understood.  I’ll put it up in the bedroom.

Mantle décor.

So down from the attic came the Red boxes, and down the stairs they went with the assistance of a neighbor who wanted to help.

Abandoning all those dusty boxes and ornaments to their fate, we went off to the BIG Christmas Store.  A yearly trip there is always exciting.  A trip with someone who had never gone before is more than exciting.  Our neighbor was open mouthed.  Look at the size of the lady in front of one of Christmas Lights trees.

  • Himself:  Was in fine shape.  Had fun with the outside lights, helped with the tree, and dressed up for the meeting.
  • Herself:  Day before’s Hot sauce plus all the dust didn’t agree with me yesterday.  Found the perfect solution for a Christmas Present for my G.  I got him a laser light that he set up across the sidewalk on an upper deck.  It beams blue sparkles all over the front of our house.  Matches all his blue lights too.  He was like a little kid setting it up.  In the future, I can get him any new electronic toy, and he will be happy.
  • Reading:  Another Dick Francis mystery.
  • Gratitudes:  For everything but my tummy.

    1. Such a pretty mantle. The Christmas stores carry so much inventory it is overwhelming sometimes. Besides, where would we store more Christmas stuff?

    2. I will not do the tree or decorate. My heart is just not in it. I will look forward to opening the Christmas boxes next year as if they were new.

    3. I'm not sure what is the matter with me. I'm just lacking the energy to do anything and there's so much to do. Usually it's me who wants to get the tree up right after Thanksgiving. This year... I just can't seem to get around to it. I'm afraid this cold and everything else has just robbed me of holiday cheer.

    4. Got a wreath up, went and looked at trees fake and real and came back with nothing. Maybe I will just pin lights in a tree shape to the wall and call it good.

    5. We have one of those two-footer fakes. It's pretty and doesn't take up a lot of room in our little place.

    6. Weight watchers has changged their point system again. Darn, now carbs cost more than ever, and I like carbs. Thought about the flowers and the chair and said no. The stripes under the chair cover are better and I think I will go with stripes....maybe. Yes, colors are critical. Graanddaughter is upset. boy who is purportedly the father of her baby has abandoned her. Family is rallying around her. No one putting pressure on her to have an abortion.
