I had a most interesting
experience yesterday. An expert in
closet reorganization redid my closet and my wardrobe. She’s just here from Australia, and she wants
to start her own business reorganizing wardrobes. I’m a test subject.
It was fascinating. She took everything out of the closet and
sorted into piles by how I used them: dress, work, pool. I
should have taken photographs. She
did. If nothing else, I should have
photographed the reject piles of worn and stained clothing. She was pleased that I had already “colorized”
the hanging pieces. Then twenty or more
pieces were bagged and out the door.
Next she began suggesting
clothing combinations that would modernize me.
I must admit I wouldn’t have thought of many of the combinations. When she was done, she took the photographs
home to make an online photo book from them to show to her new clients. To me too.
The only color suggestion she made was to add a bright orange or
two.
She did my scarves, and
she rejected the two vintage pieces I own.
I kept them. She did do the
shoes, and she took the worn ones away with her. She didn’t do the purses…I had eight mostly
backpacks. I did the underwear drawer
this morning after I sorted and stuffed the purses.
Thanks to the photographs
she took, I will be able to duplicate some her ideas. Maybe I will get George to take a picture
or two of me in my new combinations.
Never try to come between a lady and her purses.
ReplyDeleteBackpacks. LOL
DeleteShe certainly was a bundle of energy!
ReplyDeleteI need that although I have weeded my closet at least twice over the last ten years. I also have a new rule about shoes. No new shoes unless I am willing to throw out a pair. I am sure that styles of shoes I own date me terribly...but cannot throw them out! I am dying to see her new look(s) for you!
ReplyDeleteI have that rule now for anything I buy. Something old has to go if I'm going to buy something new. Sure makes me stop and think before making a purchase.
DeleteMy shoes are old. Carefully loved Bjorn sandals and several older flats. :)
DeleteIt sounds wonderful. We will be getting our closet built-in with drawers and shelving as soon as we can get to it. Maybe next year at the rate we are going...
ReplyDeleteWell done, you! I envy you having the closet work done.
That sounds like a great way to spend a day. Did she also provide the shelving/cabinetry or did you have those already in your closet? Our closet has one rod and one shelf.
ReplyDeleteIt was only a couple of hours tho she scheduled four. The shelving was put in by my husband. On the other side there are two rods...one above the other. Very successful. Nothing fancy at all.
DeleteLove this! WOW!
ReplyDeleteWow, great job. I'm still giving away clothes as the price for something new to me. I kept all my purses until the grand-girls got old enough for them. They have snatched up everything I've offered and it has been nearly painless for me. I guess I like that the purses are still in the family and I don't miss them.
ReplyDeleteBe careful of sleazy books by sleazy people. Too much of that today. Unfortunately, those sleazy comments stick in our heads. I have a few of them in my head from books I read long ago. Also, your wardrobe looks like mine before I discovered color.
ReplyDeleteThose are the purses. The other side of the closet is very colorful. :)
DeleteGreat experience!
