“It’s 420,” Julie said to
me at the pool.
After she had said it at
least 15 times to all of us, I asked what it meant.
“It’s the number of the
marijuana initiative,” she said.
“I have no idea what you
are talking about,” I replied.
“It’s also the number the
cops use to call in a marijuana problem.”
“So?” I said shrugging. “I was a failure as a pot head. One hit and I was sound asleep for the
duration.”
I’m also a failure today as
a drug addict as I had no idea what she was talking about. Even George didn’t have the faintest
idea. Heartening.
I don`t know..the older I get the more fog I get in my brain. Don`t give up.
ReplyDeletearchaic attitudes about cannabis persist. reefer madness came out in the 30's, for heaven's sake! to some, it is medicine and is far safer than many pharmaceutical drugs. oh, and it was just legalized in the golden state.
ReplyDeleteI looked it up on Wikipedia:
ReplyDelete"April 20 has become a counterculture holiday in North America, where people gather to celebrate and consume cannabis. Some events have a political nature to them, advocating for the legalization of cannabis."
I wouldn't have known what she was talking about either.
That's the second time today I have read about 4-20 and only the second time in my life too. The first time was in conjunction with a certain mythical green moon tonight -- that, of course, is a hoax.
ReplyDeleteI heard about it because Canada is legalizing marijauna next year and the significance of 420 will be lost. Who knew?
ReplyDeletepunch that color up!

ReplyDeleteThat's a link to the full story on the origins...
Never was much on the drug stuff, but cancer has changed that. Now I'm all "bring me the drugs." I can't survive without them. I might try cannibis as a palliative, but don't need or want it so far.
