MAY GREY

Point Loma.

Yesterday the fogs started rolling in over the spine of Point Loma.  Sometimes it comes like a wall of moisture, yesterday it crept in little bursts of white.  Here along the coast, we call it May Grey and June Gloom.  Little May Grey when I was a child, but I remember June Gloom.

http://meteora.ucsd.edu/cap/gloom.html>The UCSD Weather folks say that in 2011 we had 21 grey and gloomy days.  In 2014 there were only 15 days.  Even if it is only nine days of grey, I must tell you that it seems endless.  Grey skies, dull colors, and dim everything.

I note that there seem to be fewer Gloomy days since the climate began warming.  I am encouraged by these fewer days of dim light tho frightened by the implication.  I bought a tube of 100% sun cream to cover my chemo and will be out and about as much as I can.  If you see a lady in White Face, you will know it’s me.

    3. Do please use that protection with the added sunlight. We have to be really careful in Hawaii.

      1. Yes, I certainly will. Chemo in any form is frightening. Biopsies are even worse. I wear a shade shirt in the pool and I rarely go in the sun for any reason. Yes, I was really short of Vitamin D too.

      2. And I know a certain visor/hat that could shade you too. :-)

    4. Will not the fewer fog days mean hotter days? When I lived in Texas we used to get sun in the morning and then I drove to the coast for work and hit the fog bank in about ten minutes and did not see sun again until I headed home.

      1. Yes, first we have a month or so of cool days and nights. In the fifties at night and seventies during the day time. When it burns off, the temperature will still stay in the seventies...usually. That's why we live here.

    5. Nothing but cloud and rain here for days. There are areas of flooding.

    6. Our weather in Hilo has been pleasant. I do let a little sun get on me every day but spend most of my outdoor time in the shade.
