THE LILAC FIRE

Photo SD Union Tribune

I often turn on the TV to watch the noon news while eating my lunch.  Yesterday, I saw a fire begin near the junction of two freeways.  Just a tiny fire.

Today over 100,000 people are evacuated, 25 homes plus even more mobile homes burned, and twenty horses have died.  The fire area has moved from HWY 15 and 76 toward the ocean.  Several evacuation centers are full.  The Del Mar Fairgrounds has taken in almost 600 horses.  Daughter Margot and her neighbor brewed coffee and decaf.  They took it to their evacuee center, and the Red Cross folks appreciated it too.

Just small things from a very smoky world.

  2. It's half an hour north. Smoke and debris here but no fire.

  4. These California fires are so spooky. So far, it hasn’t reached my sister-in-law’s place, but who knows. That’s so kind of Margot. I hope you’re far away from the fires too, Mage.

  5. Californians live in a kind of paradise in a way, but dreadful things also happen there. Keep on keeping on out there.
