VANISHING

I read “The little Prince” this afternoon for the first time.  Not really for children, I thought.  Then again, would children of today understand the symbols and the imaginative allegories.  Do I understand them?

“Many of the book's initial reviewers were flummoxed by the fable's multi-layered story line and its morals, perhaps expecting a significantly more conventional story from one of France's leading writers. Its publisher had anticipated such reactions to a work that fell neither exclusively into a children's nor adult's literature classification.” Wikipedia.  It stayed on the New York Times best seller list only two weeks.

I’d been putting off reading it just as I have put off drawing crows onto the new quilt.  Perhaps expecting disappointment, I just put both the crows and the “Prince” aside for ages.  I started a row of crows this morning, and even with careful handling find they vanish into thin air with every movement of the fabric.

I hate finding things that either vanish or discover something hanging in memory unwantedly.

  • Himself:  Gym, work, Convention meeting.  Really enjoyed the first half of the game.
  • Me, myself, and I:  Pool, worrying about the test results, reading, writing, committee meeting.
  • Reading:  Got a book on fabrics swatches from the 1830’s, but nothing in it matches the old quilt I have on the sofa.
  • Gratitude’s:  That I am here.  That the new Chair of the upcoming Convention moves things right along.

  1. Please do not worry about test results. It is out of your hands. You can meet any challenge...I KNOW you can. Looking forward to your murder of crows.

    1. When are you leaving.
I worry because my alcoholism has caught up to me in the form of chronic Pancreatitis. That's what killed our friend Duck. Then again, they found a lump. Oy.

    1. Enter "flying crows" into google. I am covering a king sized quilt with embroidered crows. Some of the crows will be very big. I'm also using gold thread for the embroidery. Hope this helps.

  3. You can't line up crows to your own specifications......it's a bit like herding cats.

  4. I wouldn’t have the patience for the crows I’m afraid. Good luck!

  5. Hope the test results give you ease and a treatable condition with a benign lump.

  6. I don't mind serving on committees as long as the leader is a strong one and keeps things moving. What are you using to draw the crows?? Will they be stitched after you've drawn them? Here's an article on Frixion pens that might be helpful: https://quiltskipper.com/2015/08/frixion-pens-all-you-need-to-know/

    1. Kust read that article and must say I did not know this about those Fixion pens... DON'T USE THEM ON YOUR QUILT@! Apparently, the ink is a combination of Gel ink and a thermal ink and the thermal part is what makes it disappear, but the gel ink stays unless you use an ink remover. Best not to do that at all would be my advice (not asked for, but offered).

    2. I'm using white and blue chalk to draw the birds. I'm just at the bottom two feet right now. I'll free motion around them before I move on to the next few feet.

  7. Wishing you peace as you wait results. It's hard I know. I read "The Little Prince" when I was a little girl and it made me terribly sad. I did not read it to my kids.

  8. I am also very good at procrastinating, but I can't blame disappearing crows. Onward and upward.
