Tonight out to Old Town’s Casa Guadalajara for dinner and to hide from
the Halloween kids.
We are being selfish so we don’t have candy in the house. To prolong our stay out in the world, we
stopped at Ross Dress for Less, and I replaced my totally worn out red
backpack. The worn out one wasn’t
leather as they had told me. This new
one is fabric with lots of compartments. Small things make me very happy.
To the Derm doctor today. He took a goodly hunk of my shin away,
unfortunately it is still bleeding. I
told him how badly infected it got, and I have a new antibiotic ointment to put
on it twice a day until healed.
Endlessly indeed. Found out the
ugly texture on my calf is Lipodermtosclerosis.
There’s nothing sexy about my calves any more. Tighter compression stockings be me as it is
caused by Lymphedema. New lotions here
too.

November 1, 2018
Today, November 1 is
El Dia de los Angelitos or the Day of the Little Angels. It is believed that on
this day the souls of departed children return home. In fact, it is understood
that they arrive at midnight on the 31stOctober and spend one full
day with their loved ones.
I’m catching on to how the
Friends of the Library Power Book sale works.
Three days of sale, then the shelves are purged of books that didn’t
sell. Often books are given a second
chance. After two days of purging,
donated books are shelved. I don’t have
a lot in the art, architecture, and photography sections, but what I have is
“Cherce”.

Day of the Dead. All over town alters sprout with gay flowers,
portraits of the dead, and plates of the dead’s favorite foods. All of them can get quite elaborate….on hoods
of low riders at Mount Hope Cemetery as an example.
Google tells me, “the festival is a celebration of
life. ... Friday marks the end of the Dia de Muertos festival, a
time of celebration and remembrance of friends and family who have died and
embarked on their spiritual journey through the afterlife. ”
While they celebrate,
I’m down in the garage doing the laundry.
I’ve been to lunch with one friend from the shop, I’ve answered an email
from a much loved co-worker. And yes, I
really miss them. We have started
putting new books back on the Friends of the library shelves now, and that’s fascinating to see what
we get. I come home and fall asleep at
my computer. Later I laugh at myself.
You are keeping busy for sure.
ReplyDeleteIt is OK to avoid the kids on Halloween. That is why we have told children to not knock on doors where the porch light is off. I get no kids out here in the country and that makes me very sad as I would love to see the costumes. Hope your shin starts healing. Are you supposed to walk it to improve circulation or keep it propped up to avoid swelling?
ReplyDeleteWalk, and I can get back in the pool in 2 weeks. You can hear me cheering.
DeleteYou are as strong as the oak.
DeleteAh, Halloween. We are grinches too. Too many kids around here for it to be fun. A neighbour had 300.
ReplyDeleteFabulous photo, Mage.
ReplyDeleteHope your shin heals without infection this time.
Sorry your shin is being cantankerous. Heal soon. Keep in touch with those former workers. They are like family. I have some still in my mail box and it has been 15 years since I drew a paycheck.
ReplyDeleteHoping for healthy legs for you. Very quiet Halloween for me, no trick or treaters here in this neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteLove seeing photos of San Diego. There are things about it that I dearly miss -- you, the beautiful skyline, boats in the harbors, and the more temperate climate. But here I am happy and I will remain so as long as possible. Hugs to you ... and G!
ReplyDeleteLike your San Diego photos. We would have enjoyed settling there years ago, but work was here. Do hope your shin heals well. We haven’t had Halloweeners for years, since the last neighborhood kids started going to parties at friends houses instead. Parents had gotten concerned about candy contamination issues though none in our city, but they just decided to stop the house-to-house experience. We didn’t need the candy leftovers anyway.
