THE KONMARIE METHOD

Two drawers.

The KonMarie method is sweeping out things and thinking.  Everyone is writing about her.  She is being hailed as the newest self-help guru.  The BBC author who writes about her so powerfully hasn’t read her latest book tho.  What she suggests is that the tidying does is enable us to see ourselves clearly.  That’s it.

The New York Times quotes her as saying, “Tidying wasn’t just a function of your physical space; it was a function of your soul.”

I tidied a drawer, and a few days later another.  She says we must get through this fast…with great speed.  I’m still a little sick and slow, very slow, but absolutely delighted with my drawers.  Yesterday I got down on the floor and did the scarf drawer.  I’m just as charmed by the tidiness I created as by the fact I got up off the floor.

I thought I would start with the shirt section of my closet today, and I got one rod tidied.  I only took one red linen shirt back because it gave me great joy.

  • Himself:  Coughing less at last.  He slept really well last night in the chair.  Going to the museum all afternoon..
  • Myself:  Barely coughing.  I will do the other half of the shirts while he chases children.
  • Photo:  Mine.
  • "Reading:  Spark Joy" after another rod of shirts.
  • Gratitude’s:  That we got to that wonderful concert.

  1. Been watching Marie Kondo on Netflix. Just started on my closet. Really nice to be able to see where things are.

  2. This has had no appeal to me, but I guess it's because our closets and cabinets have always been very neat and tidy. I try to get rid of anything I've not used in the past year. Just brought a metal serving pan into the kitchen from the garage to wash and use at coffee fellowship tomorrow. If I don't like it, and may not since it has sat in the garage since last Easter, I will donate it to the church thrift shop, just down the hall from the church kitchen!

  4. My grandson was urged to tidy his dresser and rid himself of shirts that no longer fit. On Facebook he posted a picture of discards that would give his mother great joy.
A red linen shirt would give me great joy.

    1. I have gained weight while getting well. My arms are fat now. Daughter Margot sent me a picture of a MOUNTAIN of clothes. I think they are discards. LOL

  7. I keep hearing about her so maybe I need to check into her methods. I do like how the folding makes much more room. We will see.
So glad you are both feeling so much better.

  8. Sounds like an efficient system to use in rightsizing or downsizing. I probably save more than I need, so thinning out my clothes closet is likely a good idea.
