LOCAL

From Cesarina:Apple Crumble Pannacotta.

For many long years we lived right downtown OB or a half a mile away from downtown.  We ate there, we shopped there, we had our cars tuned up there, and we had a lot of fun and life there.  Downtown, we had a Safeway across the street, (which morphed into a badly run Apple Tree), a gas station on the corner, and a Coronet in our block.  Our focus was there, we had our stores there, and we loved it.

Now we are a whole mile up from the beach, and our local focus has changed.  We no longer have antique stores.  We no longer buy our gas locally, we go to Costco.   We get our fabric at Joanne’s or Rosie’s instead of at the Coronet.  All of a sudden, the local restaurants have changed too.

We have gone from one mediocre but popular Italian spot up the street, now we glory in a real Italian restaurant down the street.  No cookie cutter Olive Garden this newest one.   It’s new, but run by two Italian owners who really care.   The Yelp reviews for https://www.yelp.com/biz/cesarina-san-diego-3>Cesarinna> are all five stars.   We now have a hamburger place to try.  There’s a Thai place on the other side of one of the two Mexican spots.  Also, we discovered a pizza place.

We are rolling in better than usual local restaurants.  I who hate to cook could easily go broke eating out.  I could easily get fatter.  This is a bigger problem.

  2. Oh my gosh! That is making me so hungry. I used to go to Joanne's Fabrics when we lived in Illinois. I now have to go to Walmart. I miss Joanne's. It sounds like you've got a lot of wonderful places in your location now.

  3. We don’t have many nice places to eat here but we don’t mind. I prefer a sandwich made for a picnic in the woods than any fancy restaurant. It’s a good thing too. We couldn’t afford to eat out much.
