I’ve missed the roses I
usually shoot. There were none to
photograph at the Spring convention the last two years. This year the land had been bulldozed for
condos. Bereft. That’s how I felt. Empty.
Roses require lots of water, and I understand the water restrictions we
here in California now live with. The new owners of the property allowed
employees to dig up roses if they wanted a special one. After that, they flattened the land.
Roses
planted in a gentle terraces down Florida Canyon.
I thought about this for
two months. Perhaps I was busy with
wearing out. Four weeks ago, I noted
that my battery ran low on that last Balboa Park jaunt. Finally last week, I decided to go…. Instead I made my costume vest. This week, with the vest done, I had no
excuses. G assured me that the battery
on my scooter was fully charged. Still
not fully believing that my scooter had lots of range, I had him drop me off at
the Rosie the Riveter rose garden on the far, far side of the park..
Huge
old cactus.
Acres
of beautiful roses in terraces going down the canyon. Only one single rose had a bee tho. Then I moved north through the old Cactus
garden. The camera batteries and scooter
battery were still working just perfectly.
So I kept going, and going, and only going up and over one bridge did
the battery creep downward. Now I know.

What a cactus, worth a scoot for sure.
ReplyDeletePainting your bathroom??? My you are ambitious. I'm sitting on the couch, feet up, on a hot Sunday afternoon, thinking about taking a nap. I wouldn't even know where to begin painting a bathroom.
ReplyDeleteThat is a magnificent cactus, and a tiny rosebud in the bottom left corner.
ReplyDeleteWow! I thought that cactus was some sort of artistic sculpture. That's amazing. I'm looking forward to seeing what your furry vest will be like. That is an amazing rose! I love roses.
ReplyDeleteThat’s an incredible cactus! Your happy place is among the roses!
ReplyDeleteSo happy your batteries are doing their job. It is hard to be the energizer bunny with low voltage. Happy to see one of our threatened bees loading up with pollen.
ReplyDeleteSo what's going to take the place of all those beautiful roses???? Condos??? What a sad trade-off. Sorry, but sometimes I think people fail to think with their heart and we have to live with the results of that.
ReplyDeleteThe roses that I miss so much were a part of the Town and Country hotel. Yes, condos and more hotel space.
DeleteYes, loss of roses is the beginning of the minor sacrifices we are going to have to make. That battery issue would scare me and maybe you need a back-up or would that add too much weight. Just make sure you phone is powered!!
ReplyDeleteI can buy a bigger battery...and we are thinking of doing just that. You would never believe I forgot and left my phone at home. I need to learn the parameters of this wonderful tool, and feel comfortable using them. Ditto the phone. LOL
DeleteThank you for supervising the painting project.
ReplyDeleteGreat Cactus.
