The Way

Emilio Estevez has put together a deeply moving film called The Way.

The teaser says: "The Way" is a powerful and inspirational story about family, friends, and the challenges we face while navigating this ever-changing and complicated world. Martin Sheen plays Tom, an American doctor who comes to St. Jean Pied de Port, France to collect the remains of his adult son (played by Emilio Estevez), killed in the Pyrenees in a storm while walking the Camino de Santiago, also known as The Way of Saint James. Rather than return home, Tom decides to embark on the historical pilgrimage to honor his son's desire to finish the journey. What Tom doesn't plan on is the profound impact the journey will have on him and his "California…Life."

What I did not plan on was how clearly I could identify with Martin Sheen as the doctor. He wanted his only son to live life the way he lives his….finish his doctorate, go on to work and live a California life of golf, love, and work. The son announces he’s not going to finish school and is off to walk the Camino de Santiago, The Way.

Despite the fact that we had to chase this film down; limited release means just that here. I highly recommend seeing it.

  2. Thanks for the review!!! It's one of the things I'd love to do! Colleen over at Santiago Dreaming has made that walk and found it a enriching experience!! I definitely have to see this film!

  3. My son and DIL just saw it yesterday and were raving about it. I have put it on Netflix to enjoy when it is released there.

  4. I admire Martin Sheen as an actor and as a parent. I probably will not find this in my neighborhood, but maybe on DVD someday.

  6. This sounds like a fabulous, powerful movie. The Sheens have had their own family challenges.
