All the While

USS Peleliu entering the port of San Diego, 2012.

I ran away from my sick bed yesterday to leave the house to the housekeeper. Perhaps that was sick thinking, but Grumpy and I were able to doze the morning away by the bay in comfort. Water, camera, a book, and warm clothes…what more could I want.

The air was filled with Santa Ana, desert grey-brown dust wrapped around the city when I arrived on the island. The air around the Point seemed clearer, so I drove to the far end and was able to get one of the prime parking spots. I could look straight down the mouth of the bay. A yacht or two sailed by, runners and walkers brought back memories of when I race-walked the island, and funny little boats were just off the rocks near the markers.

On the left is the small craft the Navy uses to train dolphins. There are small dots near the markers in the water, and my guess is that they are dolphins and trainers. On the right is the strangest thing I’ve seen in our harbor….perhaps it is undetectable in some way zipping under the radar.

Home to read the afternoon away. G arrived back from work shortly after I did, and we both faded companionably. I’m being extremely careful of myself with this cold. The last two colds lasted over six months each with the cough from the last one still with me when I caught this virus. My youngest daughter worries that I will fall down the stairs here. I worry that I will just slowly fade away coughing all the while.

  1. Oh that's me, slowly fading away. We went out for breakfast this morning and I could barely eat my eggs. I have lost interest in most foods. I could live on coffee.

  2. When coffee tastes like cardboard, you know you are in trouble. Me? I have to go to the store and don't know if I have the energy. LOL

  3. Hope the colds fade away. I am at the point of not taking any meds but still feel so tired out....

  4. Sounds like a nice way to spend the afternoon except I'd for sure have to find a restroom. Yes, do take care of yourself.

  5. Lingering colds are the worst. Mine always go to my chest. I get so very sick. I have been lucky the last 6 weeks and I am surprised because I have not been able to exercise, but I also have not been out and about. Your photo was mailed today. Hope that will boost your spirits.

  8. Oh my... I'm sorry. I used to get terrible colds that lasted forever when I was teaching. That pretty much stopped once I retired. Take care, Mage.

  9. My cold is on the 10th day. Just now starting to feel better. Soup at Sipz helped a lot!

  10. You're wise to be careful with those colds. Several I know have had to be hospitalized with what they thought was just a 'cold'. It's nothing to sneeze at! (Sorry -- chalk it up to my being confined for a long time.)

One time when we were out in the harbor, we watched the Ronald Reagan come in. What an amazing sight that was (in spite of the name!)

  11. Great shots, Mage! They make me want to get out to the west coast even more then I already do.

One time when I was out in San Diego, I saw one of those coming in...unfortunately, I couldn't find a good place to get a picture of her.....
