Was very slow all day yesterday.
Like a slug, actually. Got menus
done, shopping done, wrote a first draft of a piece for the poetry group,
started a new book, and slowly woke up.
Perhaps I need a tiny bit of real coffee in my decaf to get going.
Reading:
The fifth Bill Crider. He’s one
of those writers that give you a comfortable read despite murder and mayhem
scattered all over the landscape.
Balance:
A not at all bad at all dinner from the Cooking Light Low Fat Cookbook. Sometimes my cooking leaves a lot to be
desired.

For the
second year in a row, movie night has been a hit. These days I keep an eye out for films we
haven’t seen. Whipping through TarJay

picture and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academy_Award_for_Best_Picture>Oscar
Winners we have missed seeing.
Quite a few, I discover from the Wikipedia list of Academy
award winners. And after watching that
charming video of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rita_Hayworth>Rita
Hayworth yesterday, I became aware of all the musicals I’ve missed
also. Something will have to be done
about that.
Movie night began as a replacement for the NCIS duo that
goes on hiatus every summer. Since both
G and I love our NCIS’s and there’s nothing that appeals to us that night on
the box, G thought of movies.
We have been working our way through our own collection,
through some truly garbage sci-fi G finds here and there, and some of the
blander stuff I like. Now that I’m awake to the broader venue, not
coming from a movie going family, I think I will be picking some of the older
films when it’s my turn.
Tuesday nights at 9 on TNT: "Rizzoli and Isles." Based on characters from the Tess Gerritsen novels, but an entirely different storylie.

Oh my gosh! I went to the movies every Friday night and every Sunday afternoon when I was a kid! I always saw the same film twice in the same week. Actually, I think my mother wanted me out of the house.
ReplyDeleteRecipe for Mom's potato salad:
ReplyDelete6 small red potatos
6 eggs
1 whole sweet onion, preferably Vidalia
2-3 stalks of celery
paprika 1/2 - 1 tablespoon
couple of squirts of ball park mustard (yellow)
couple of heaping tablespoons of canola-based lo-fat mayonnaise (I use Hellman)
Garlic salt to taste
Boil the potatoes and eggs and refrigerate over night.
Next day, dice potatoes, onions and celery and mix together.
Add salt, paprika
Add mayo and mustard to moisten
Stir.
I vary the amount of mustard and mayo and use what I have on hand, but the plain yellow French's is the best.
I also leave the skins on the potatoes.
This potato salad gets better in the fridge over time, if it lasts that long. We had it with your corn recipe (a la microwave) and tomatoes. Very good.
I've just finished the first series of Downton Abbey....loved it. It took me a few minutes to get used to the British dialect but it was worth it.
ReplyDeleteWe love the old movies, musicals especially. Husband loves the WWII ones that I do not. So we try to compromise as much as possible. Husband is always looking at the $5 table as well, and sometimes comes up with a find.
ReplyDeleteIt's so hard to find great science fiction movies. My husband is a science fiction fan. Slumdog was really a great movie although there are squeamish parts in it.
ReplyDeleteYou should google "London River", a British movie set in 2007 just after the bombing in London. A mother searches for her daughter along with a man, African, searching for his son. A really well acted movie. May not be your forte, that's why I recommend googling.
