Tid Bits 204

Façade indeed.

@ There are those moments you become aware that your now 19 year old truck’s brakes aren’t quite right.  There was an emergency stop when I didn’t.  Thank heaven I didn't run into the guy who pulled out right in front of me.  Then in downtown OB, the brake pedal slowly lowered itself to the floor.  I told G, but you know how car guys are.  I knew he didn’t believe me.  We drove back down, and at another stop sign he said slowly, “The brakes are to the floor.”  Fixing it is a Monday or Tuesday job, but he said he would look at it today.

I couldn’t see the details in this shot.

@  We are darkening our rooms to hide our new windows.  Yes we are.

When the Geezer went out to get the morning paper, he was greeted by the sight of a giant cardboard box.  We installed bathroom curtains when new neighbors moved in, but this week I moved them to the kitchen to hide that massively black window.  Now this morning, a new custom shutter has arrived to hide the monstrously wide, black bathroom window frame.  The curtains are white as is the shutter.

Hodad’s really serves the best burger’s in town.

@  I had G drive me back to OB yesterday, and I got closeups of the Hodad’s décor I couldn’t see from the street.  The plain, kinda bland hamburger joint is covered with license plates inside and stickers on the outside.  The first drawing I did had no stickers and french doors.  These half window/tables are a better deal for this top, Food Network “Diners Drive-in’s and Dives” restaurant.  I chatted for a moment with one of the cooks.  We now eat at Petco Park,” I told him, “As we can’t get in here any more.”  We both laughed.

The original Hodad’s drawing when I was new at genre drawings and didn’t know they had to be a closeup.

@  Brunch with Captain Poolie and her sister Mia this morning.  Mia has books for the Discovery shop, and I want to hear all about Poolies adventures in the Netherlands.

  • Keeping those on the Midwest and east coast in my thoughts.
  • Himself:  Has his own agenda today.
  • Herself:  Going with the flow and ignoring him.
  • Reading:  Picked up two books at an estate sale yesterday.  One on the New Deal war efforts and the other an incomplete bio of Lindburgh.
  • Balance:  Drawing.

    3. You are nostalgic today. so glad your brake problem did not put you or someone else in the hospital...glad it will be fixed! I am still running around like a crazy lady, but this must come to a halt soon...mustn't it?

    4. Love the photos, and the drawing. Almost makes me want a burger. Also love the blue jacarandas. Needless to say, we have nothing like that here.

RYN: Most of that stuff at Nine Mile Run was planted. Evidently the area was just a dump. The stream and surroundings were restored by the Army Corps of Engineers; the largest urban reclamation project ever done, or something like that. Our taxpayer dollars at work. I'd like to see more of it.

    5. We are on our way to our favorite eatery this morning. We have a comparable hamburger joint here...The Lost Dog Cafe. Been around forever.

We are not having breakfast there however. I have stopped eating beef. Can't digest it properly.

As for diet...gained and lost in recent weeks. At least I am pointed in the right direction. Too much birthday cake in early May I think.

Wendy and Richard turn 50 this week. Can you believe my DIL is that old? She looks great.

    7. What? G didn't believe you about the brake problem!? Happens to me all the time. Only it usually works just fine when HE drives it and acts up only when I drive. Sometimes it takes weeks to convince him we have mechanical (or pretty much other other kind) problem. Reading backwards (to catch up) I realize why I like that Hodad's drawing so much. I wake up every day to two Guy Buffet paintings (Charge of the Flower Bottle Brigade & Cafe la Provence). Don't know much about art but I love the whimsical style.
