A LITTLE MORNING MAGIC

Marc Chagall’s Bouquet, print.

Mostly I find myself smiling all the way to work.  I who forget everything have never forgotten to post an image to Facebook every morning.  When I first arrive at the store, I look for images that I might use. Always there is something that brings a smile to my face.

Yesterday my eye was caught by yellow, flower laden shoes and two yellow purses to match.  A little further into the store, my eye was caught by a print.  “This is good,” I thought.  And as I got closer, “This is by someone famous”….and I couldn’t remember the artists name.  I kept my failure as an artist with too much art education to myself until I got home.

I looked up Russian painters when I got home.  Marc Chagall’s Bouquet…I’d never seen it before.  He and his wife float in the background.  There’s a horse at the bottom.  Perhaps it’s a farm in the other corner.  I’m always delighted by the universe he shares.

Himself:  Today is the eye doc appointment.  Not yesterday.  He went to work at 7, and so can take half a day off.  He’s called a local flooring company for an estimate on the back very dirty stair carpet replacement.
Herself:  My audiology appointment is at one today not yesterday.  We are going somewhere simple for dinner after our two appointments.
Reading:   A Maine wildlife conservation mystery.  Author Paul Doiron.
Watching:  Cried when Abby left NCIS.  Silly me.
Gratitudes:  That I have an audiology appointment.

CARPET CLEANING DE JOUR

Low art.

We are having the carpet cleaned…again.  While I was out this morning, G took down all the low art and moved all movable furniture.  The Carpet cleaner guy, who is an exceptionally nice man, does the best job of anyone we have ever had.  I know he doesn’t want to damage anything.  I know he will do a really  good job on my three coffee spiLls.

Low hanging art?  We have lots of little art bits, and we ran out of places to hang them.  The bottom stairs are floor to ceiling small art pieces.  Upstairs, I didn’t want to ruin the drama of the two story terra cotta colored wall with tons of art, so I hung small pieces very low.  Over the years most are now black and white.

Not all homes have the too much art problem, but all artists I know do.

“Did you photograph the art before you took it down,” I asked.

“No,” he replied, “but I remember where they all go.

I didn’t tell him that this hadn’t worked well before.

  • Himself:  Gym, packed up house, and is now at work.  Eye appointment.  I’ll drive him home.  He lost weight eating Oreos yesterday.
  • Herself:  Meeting and came home to find the work all done.  Audiologist after lunch.  Take G to eye doc later.
  • Art:  At the top of the stairs is an old silk block that is shattered.  Next one is a drink card from a 20’s or 30’s Alaska ferry.  Good graphics.  You can see a bit of the bottom of Ducks Sunflowers at the top of the stairs.
  • Watching:  Last NCIS with Abby.
  • Gratitudes:  That I met a lady at my morning meeting who lives in my complex.

VIEWS

Heading up the California coastline, 2017.

Walking in the pool this morning, I took a moment to look up as a jet roared overhead.  I floated comfortably as I watched contrails far overhead, parrots chatting among themselves, and crows talking in general.  Splashing sounds offered background noise to accompany the birds as the lap swimmers went back and forth.

We are both back in our routines.  Not that we want to be, mind you, but he is in the gym and I in the pool.  I feel so much better splashing my rows back and forth.  He’s slowly becoming less of himself.  I had to tease him last night about the gather’s around the waist of his pants.  Me…still gaining.  Getting rid of long unworn thin clothes.  There has to be some virtue in that.

  • Himself:  Got plenty of work to do today.  Meeting tonight.
  • Herself:  Can’t change my Twitter password, can go grocery shopping, cleaning to the cleaners, me to the sewing machine and the washing machine.
  • Reading:  Reluctantly reading Box.
  • Watching:  Tonight Antiques Roadshow.
  • Gratitudes:  That my whole head feels better.
