Week Two: Just one Cupboard

I didn’t have the faintest idea that all those things lived in that tiny cupboard.

With G’s help, all of it came down and on to my empty counter.  I was in shock, and George was appalled.  Slowly it all got sorted.  Do I need two 1930’s wooden salad bowls?  No…it is all ad infinitum….you would think I would have learned by now.

The instructions say, don’t sort for looks, but that’s what I do with the upper shelves.  The lower shelves have few things on them now…one or two bowls I wanted to keep are a back layer.  Don’t do the food or pantry yet, it tells me.  I’m not ready yet anyway.  I’m still filled with the shock of getting rid of so many things.

Then again, I feel a bit liberated.  How about, anyone want a brand new Keurig?  Wait till I get to the books.

  • Himself:  Worked hard all day.  Watched a little Olympics over lunch, a meeting tonight.
  • Herself:  Sort, read, sort, eat, sort….carry things to the car. Et al.  LOL
  • Reading:  Gratitudes.
  • Gratitudes:  That I’m being so ruthless and loving the end result.

    1. I've considered buying one of the Keurig machines, because our coffee pot is starting to die (it takes about 20=25 min. to brew 10 cups where it used to take less than 10 min.). Eldest son says he has 3 coffee pots he's going to give us -- don't know if they work or not. We'll see when we get them. I like to have coffee in the afternoon and evening and just put a cup of water in the microwave and use instant Cappuccino. It works... I see that this week is back to school reorganizing but I only have my counter cleared! Haven't been able to break my bad habit of leaving dirty dishes for the next morning. I kind of like getting up and doing them first thing in the a.m. -- the sound of the diswasher running tells me my day has started (that and the sound of the coffee pot making its gurgling noise)! Huggers... me

    2. Such a great job. It is getting easier? I hope so. You'll need that for the books.

    3. I had one of those box cheese graters that takes up so much room for what little it does. I got rid of it only to find my grandson likes to grate cheese using that style. Oh well. It's not coming back.

      1. I always seem to bend the flat graters, so I kept this one. :)

    4. I have done what your are doing, numerous times, but things tend to fornicate and reproduce, I swear. Time for me to be ruthless again! I am against the container coffee makers as they are not as biodegradable as I would like. I just think coffee filters are much better, even better when they are metal.

      1. George got a metal filter for the Keureg and ground his own coffee. He hated the mud the machine made. We like our fresh ground, but now with Mr. Coffee.
I did this last a couple of years ago, but never this thoroly. I have two salad bowls to find homes for then it's on to the spices and food storage.

    5. You are doing fine. I saw a hoarder on Dr. Phil yesterday. She was pathetic.

    7. We are still sorting and loading our van for trips to the thrift stator. And that is after a niece came and hauled off a bunch of furniture, a freezer and assorted other items that she creatively repurposed for her fan\mily's new home. Hubby also did the yard sale thing. But Tabor is right. Put stuff in a drawer or closet and it reproduces, even though we have new drawers and closets. Be brave and brutal!

    8. Decluttering IS so freeing! You don't realize it until you let go. :)
