Confusions

It's as if we were riding bumper cars at a carni. Photo, 2006.

Himself: Very pleased that Bee liked the small boxes. Out to lunch, and out for more wood. The lace wood, tho a hard wood, shreds easily. Bought Jatoba wood. Today swim, job hunt, boxes.

Herself: Weighed: very pleased. Swim, tidy, Bee...a delight to see her and M. Breakfast with the lo-cal plate, menus, then I took a book and rode along with G, groceries, dinner...again on the deck, struggle with computer. Today school starts for me.

Reading: Another Father Tim.

Balance: Time during dinner to just talk with G.

Once again, it appears I have a proprietorial computer set-up this time living in my home network. Ah, the agony of confusion. The insanity of a blank brain.

My new XP computer has returned from the shop where the owners ran six different programs on it three times. "It wasn't as bad as some," the owner told G. It is now installed into the network with two Vista Computers as the main backup with it's one terrabite - one thousand gigabites - hard drive in it.

Although various brands of computers have been very proprietorial since the dawn of PC's and MAC's, the computer operating Systems, (OS), have not been. They have been easy to network and easy to hack up through Windows XP, with the newest system they aren't. To say that Vista doesn't play well with XP puts it mildly.

I, with my learning disabilities, am a basket case of confusions.

To add to my usual confusions, to make G's home network operate correctly, nothing is now used where it was before.

I don't think G was at all happy with me when my brain went blank last night and I was reduced to tears. Today, I will resort to putting post-it labels on the fronts of my computers. This computer, which has been known as bettyb is now just simply peterf. Right. All information on the Vista is saved to "Public"....otherwise none of the other computers can see the information. The old backup remains mageX, and there everything is on the C drive. On the XP, half is still on the C drive and everything else is filed on the F drive. Maybe writing it all out and putting it on a post its will help when I am reduced to tears.

The oldest of my computers is in the shop getting it's virus/worm/Trojan horses removed. It's the reluctant-to-run back up and has the bulk of things on it from 2003 to 2009. I can use both systems both XP and Vista....tho many details in Vista frustrate me, but put them all together and I am a veggie. Thank you so much Wildhare for showing me how to open and close one single page in the new Word while keeping the program open....oh hurrah, a triumph.

I need to figure out the network before I go further so I can make sure all information is compatible, and not only compatible but saved where it can be used. Floppies are on CD's. Good. Zip drive stuff is on the old XP. I liked Zip Drives. But is it on disc too? Hi, can I see it from here? From there? Then lastly, I will save everything to DVD.

This is like the fourth time technology has passed me by.

  1. I feel for you. I had to know all this junk when I was working; happily I keep it simple now.

  2. Goodness, if it's passed you by, what has it done to me? I don't even know what you're talking about. I guess I'll never understand this stuff.

  4. Dearest Magie, I wish I lived nearby! But the truth is, the only way to "get it" is the same way we get anything - repeat, reread, rewrite, reuse, do it again. I hate that changing operating systems (making things better, easier - right?) has made everything more confusing. It does seem the way of the world in most things these days, and technology most of all, perhaps

You are quite welcome on the Microsoft Word tip - I was tickled that you needed some info that I happened to have! I keep a notebook of tips close by the computer which is quite handy.

    Hugs your way, so there.
