Here a menorah, there a Christmas Tree. Our city is bedecked. Neighborhoods are lit, and businesses are colorful. Not only do we have more lights than last year, reflecting a small upturn in the economy, we seem to have a bit more hope in the air. Tomorrow night, not only do we offer the homey OB Christmas Parade, there’s a Balboa Park wide holiday celebration called December Nights.
It was originally planned as “Christmas on the Prado” to bring some folks into the park during December. The word Christmas was politically not ok. Perhaps the other museums off the Prado area wanted to take part in this park party too. The name was changed and the area expanded.
This year’s party begins tonight. We work Saturday night. I’ll remember to bring a camera with me….as well as my silkies, Alaskan coat, gloves and hat. The Geezer wears leather. Since I’ve not worked this chataqua before, I’ll bring a smile too.
Sounds like a fine party. Looking forward to your pictures.
ReplyDeleteI am sure your photos will be celebratory.
ReplyDeleteYes, in some ways there does seem to be more hope in the air. I bet Balboa Park will look gorgeous! Have a good time.
ReplyDeleteMaggie, I think you'd freeze here -- the high today will be 39!
I'm betting you'll have a grand time and those around you will be blessed by your wonderful attitudes and smiling faces.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen as many Christmas decorations on the out side yet. I'ts mostly on the inside of malls. Then again, I haven't been out much. We'll be going around tomorrow and see what's up.
ReplyDeleteI love that you are so involved in so many things! I love that even in a big city, folks are still "small town" in their desire to get out, be about and celebrate with their neighbors. Looking forward to the photos.
ReplyDeleteLooks awesome!!!!!!! I'm lookind forward to your next post!!!
ReplyDeleteDecember Nights is so much fun, but I'll be missing the Coronado Parade tonight and the Little Italy Tree lighting. Too much to do this weekend!
ReplyDeleteI THINK a fun evening in the works!
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun and looking forward to it. I love the colour of these ornaments and can see the photographer's reflection in many of them.
ReplyDeleteI am sure you had a WONDERFUL time! I can't wait to hear the story over days. I trust you were warm enough?
ReplyDeleteI do love the holidays. As I get older I am sad that so much is driven by commercialism - even when the season begins and ends! Good grief.
We are all in blue decor at my house for advent, although it looks like I will have to consent to the tree up this weekend, since DH is having a few folks over from work this coming Friday. I won't hate it though, I must admit.
Love the tree lights! It will be interesting to see how these kittens do with a tree around. :)
