Excuses (with edit)
Once she used allergies as an excuse
not to visit. She used her lack of clothes,
or headaches as reasons not to stop in
at an old friends for dinner, drinks, or talk.
She found other excuses to not do
the usuals. Never was the bed made,
laundry washed, dishes cleaned, or shopping done.
Finally, abandoning all pretense, she
moved passionately onward to rescue
the world. Enthusiastically making
signs, marching, speaking, caring. One long day
she tripped over her own tired shoes, fell
when taking herself too seriously
then found herself with nowhere left to go.
