It was wonderful to see old friends yesterday at the newly
restarted writing workshop. I got to
read second, and the reception my book review received was enthusiastically negative. To top it all off, I brought eight copies
when I needed to bring twenty. All in all
it was an eye opening morning that left me feeling that I was in the right
place.
My review of the very bland book put them to sleep, they
told me. Bottom line stuff,
pedantic. Not at all lively. Don’t just tell us that the book droned on
endlessly in your conclusion, but tell us all the way through the review and
tell us why. Personalize your remarks.
Boy, that’s hard to do.
Next I get to personalize the essay on the submarine pens. If I think personalizing a book review on 13
thousand vanished books is hard, now I get to do it for cement. Yes, I’m laughing.
So I came home and practiced personalizing things. Then I got to punt….that was dinner. The geezer told me dinner was good, but it was
a make something out of nothing meal. We
will go grocery shopping after the WW meeting tonight. Gas up Grumpy too. His exhaust is smelling appalling again, so
we have a nice toxic additive to pour in before gassing him up. Costco has the cheapest gas, the experts
say. $4.59 a gallon in City Heights the
TV tells us.
Later today, I really need to write GM and call them on their ad’s that
say they’ll keep their cars and trucks running forever. Last week, it was a part they no longer make. This week, I get to patch the seat. Next week will be another adventure in GM
maintenance. Maybe I need to personalize
that too.
Your writing class sounds wonderful Wish I had time to do that again. Dianne
