What’s Movie Night? The Great Geezer and I flat out love
NCIS. During the long television summer hiatus,
instead of spending eons spinning the dial, we watch a movie. New or old, we treat ourselves as if we were
going to the theater. M&M’s and popcorn, with the addition of small tables and
carafes of water. Since Himself bought
the complete seven seasons of West Wing, these episodes have been our fare on
Movie Night. We have just started into
season six, and the fictional campaigns for the presidency are filling our
screens.
What’s a small?
In the antique and collectible business, a collection of small salt and
pepper shakers would be considered smalls as would be thimbles or tiny ceramic
dogs. That sort of thing. Endless little tid-bits.
No rain. I’ve
been eagerly watching the TV weather for news of rain from an overhead tropical
storm. Sunday they told us it would rain. Nope.
Monday they said. Nope, no
rain. Now Wednesday again. I’m not holding my breath for this
anymore. The rain is going right over
our heads and flooding the back country while we turn into dried lakes of dust.
Mikey’s stepmom Gloria, a dear friend of Bobbies,
heard of a young man who lost his mother.
He’s been placed with his mother’s best friend, and he arrived on her
doorstep with just what he had. The
foster care system says that only new clothes can be purchased with the money
they provide, but it turns out that this child is exactly the same size as
Mikey. Bobbie and Gloria cleaned out
Mikey’s closet yesterday. All I can hope
is that the kid likes Boss denims.
The next round of doctor’s appointments begin this
Friday with the urologist. Next week I
see both my GP and the Surgeon. It would
be nice if one of them would free me for the gym if not yet the pool. I can walk almost two blocks up and down hill
now, but if I didn’t have a walker with a chair, I couldn’t do the
distance. Maybe this weekend the Great
Geezer can take me over to the flatness of Shelter Island.
Sit at C-Level and have an appetizer. Actually, even with the walker and chair you're doing FANTASTICALLY!!!
ReplyDeleteMovie night and M and M's -- doesn't get much better than that!
A woman in my senior water class used her walker to get to the edge of the pool and climbed in. I don't understand why you can't do the same, when you are able to use the ladder.
ReplyDeleteWe had a ramp that went into the pool and you could use it to enter and leave the water....untill it collapsed one day with several heavy women on it. Boy were they angry.
I am facing this whole mess with hip and really appreciate your blow by blow updates. You are the wind beneath my wings these days. Too bad I can't send you some rain, but we don't have any either. Dianne
I cannot believe how quickly you are moving around, lady! Good on you!
ReplyDeleteDavid anticipates having knee and hip surgery in the near future. I hope he doesn't suffer as much as you have. But, it only has to get better, right?
ReplyDeleteYou do not sound super discouraged. Hope you continue to heal and push yourself gently. Swimming is a great exercise, so hopefully your will be able to do weightless movement in the pool. So you cannot buy a foster child more than the clothing allowance...did not know that!
ReplyDeleteHope you make it into the pool soon, I admire your grit. We have foster kids in our family and the system can be hard to navigate sometimes. Fortunately we have a big family that shares.
ReplyDeleteOK..read your response. Made me think. It is not unheard of for me to say 'no' but I have done it rarely. I finally sent an email today to my DIL who said the realtor was coming up on Thurs. to review the place and could we come up and paint the inside on Weds. I emailed back asking...what rooms? are the rooms prepped in any way? how much of the room needs to be painted? Told her I was driving up the next day to the city to babysit my daughter's grandkids so that Son-IL could go out for a birthday visit of a band he likes, his birthday was way back in July. Haven't heard from her yet, we will see.
ReplyDeleteHang tough, kiddo. Hang tough. I like Movie Night -- DH and I do it too. We did it just last night, in fact. We watched "BABE" in VHS, no less! :) Tortilla chips and fresh salsa, trail mix (he gets the nuts and I get the M&M's and raisins)and a very good evening it was.
ReplyDeleteCould you or Geezer take a look at my WordPress page/latest entry and tell me why the menu is overlaying my photo??? Thanks, T
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of just making a special movie night at home!!! Hmmm.... I think I'll mention it to Art. I LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteRYN: Nope, nothing anonymous about me--hasn't been for a very long time. I live my life out loud!
ReplyDeleteYou're getting better...Great! I hope you're cleared for the pool soon.
ReplyDeleteYour movie night in front of the TV sounds like fun. My husband, kids and I do it, but rarely. Maybe some popcorn and snakes would encourage us more. :)
Wow! Walking up and down a hill is a terrific workout! You are making an amazing recovery!
ReplyDeleteYour movie nights sound the best.
