April 25, 2021

This is the San Diego Museum of art.  They have a ramp to the right, and a separate opening for members.  This day there was a truly disgruntled employee out in front haranging the visitors via megaphone.  If she was truly fired for sexist reasons, why did she not just hire a lawyer?

My goal today was to see the three galleries upstairs.  Much to my surprise and pleasure, one whole gallery was filled with early French Impressionist work.

Here the glory of early impressionism runs rampant on this cliff face.  Truly wonderful colors by Claude Monet.

Berthe Morisot surprised me by her almost monochrome image of the Seine Valley at Mezy.  Expecting a far stronger palette, I came to a halt admiring her creativity and differences.

In the center, more formal gallery, was hung the Church supported art.  Perhaps one could call these pieces imaginative realism.

Right in the heart of the park is a touch of modernism.  To the left of the Art Museum is the Timkin Museum.  Another museum of art this time from the holdings of the famous roller bearing family.  It’s free when it isn’t being remodeled.  To the right of the main museum is a small café, the sculpture courtyard, and a tiny free gallery all in another international style building.

 To be continued:

  1. looks like the museum made a real "impression" on you!!!!

  2. I think you have a background that helps you to get more out of this than many others do, as much as we might appreciate what we see.

  3. I grew up twenty miles up the road from the Timken Roller Bearing Company. I had no idea he was spending all that money in California.
    Looking forward to more installments.

    1. There's a remarkable Victorian house too. :)

  4. Am glad the disgruntled employee was only carrying a megaphone and not a gun. People are scary these days. Good she didn't spoil your delightful day.
Seeing all this makes me realize living in a small town really has disadvantages. I miss museums.

  5. Ohhh...what a treat to be out in an art museum! Lucky you.

  6. when I was small our parents would take us around to different museums on weekends. by the time I had kids, museums were no longer free and because we were working artists basically living hand to mouth anything that cost money to get in was a rare treat. later though the wealthy Menils built a museum for their enormous and significant art collection. and it is free.

  7. Lucky, lucky you to have access to so much. I am so far from our art museums...although they are opening soon at last. So glad you sound energetic and out and about.

  8. I envy you that wonderful experience. I hope you will have many more.

  9. Can't wait to visit an art mueum again. Love Claude Monet, one of my favorite artists.
